Obnoxious car stereos-fun or a plague on society?
I was wondering how folks here feel about individuals blaring their car stereos here there and everywhere?
Personally I hate it when I'm driving down the street and I can hear a person's stereo over my own with the windows up and the AC blowing. Those people just piss me off.
But...I take heart in the fact that they'll probably go deaf within three years. It's called "poetic justice".
All right a soul mate ! :)

Ditto.
I also just don't get the people who spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars pimping out their car with a huge sound system(speakers, subwoofers, highqualilty wiring, all that shit). When I worked at Circuit city, I worked with several people who felt this was a necessity. What the hell do you need that for? How loud does your music need to be?
Thank you....and you know the car is a 1978 piece of crap on jacked up wheels and 500 dollar rims etc. Every night my windows literally shake in my apartment when a losermobile drives by..whump bump..whump bump....

Yeah, they put all that work into the sound system, and the piece of shit can't even roll 5 yards without it breaking down.
I've done some light work to my car stereo system, but not to blast the speakers. I have a tiny interior, so I don't need alot to blast my music loud. I just upgraded the speakers and added a sub and two amps so the sound is cleaerer and beter. My sound system, so to speak, is a three inch exhaust/down pipe, catless, running through an HKS muffler.
But why do my ears have to bleed and for that matter why does that music have to be forced on me?

If you don't need to wear earplugs, it isn't loud enough.

I want to hear my stereo, not yours.
Don't get me wrong, I love loud music, by not when I disturbs other people or somehow distracts me. I can't really see how people put $10k on an audio system. All that extra unnecessary weight...

What do you need most things for that people splurge on? Perhaps you love your super-computer that you built yourself, or maybe your closet full of clothes, or your movie collection. Who the hell cares? If they like pimped out systems, then they like it. Big deal.

hmm...over the past 4 years, I've probably spent well over $7 or $8k on the sound system in my truck.
My current setup is an Alpine CDA-9815 head unit, 2 ID CS1.6 HLCDs, 2 PG Ti12S4 subwoofers, 2 JL TR650cxi door speakers, a RD 600W mono-block amp, and an Eclipse PA5422 amplifier (4x85W), Optima yellow-top battery running 0ga to the 200 amp fuse then to the distro block where I have 2 4ga runs back to the amps (which are also individually fused), and a custom built box that takes up the entire back of the truck's cab.
Is it loud? Only when I want it to be. Was it worth the money I spent on it? I'd like to think so. When you drive as much as I do and enjoy listening to music as much as I do, it's well worth the investment.
Besides, nothing is as funny as the bewildered look on people's faces when I play some bluesy music very loudly (and it's quite clear, I might add).
My main objection is the bass..whump whump bump...whump whump bump..... to the point where I cant hear anything but that...I would like to throw rotten garbage at them and get a ticket for noise pollution.

Ahhh, but as I said...mine's very clear...I can get lots of bass, but I dont. I prefer to hear the music too...

I'll be honest: I'd love to have a system and if I did, I'd play the shit out of it. Most of y'all would hate my ass for it if we ever got caught at a light, but my taste in music is impeccable.
That said, I might turn it down if I were stopped, or... you know, in a parking lot or something, but driving down the street I can sense no rational objection. You'll only have to hear it for a few seconds at most. If we wanted to waste our time trying to shut down every minor annoyance, we'd all end up in the padded rooms where men with cattle prods come to get you out of the pen for lunch.

I would be at a stoplight with Moonlight Sonata cranked and bass boost on, because I just like bass boost.
I was wondering how folks here feel about individuals blaring their car stereos here there and everywhere? As long as I can't hear it (means keep your windows shut and roof closed).

You don't find cattle prods annoying? :p

LOL...I have as much right to roll my windows down as you do - whether my music is loud or not. Granted, I'm generally considerate of others at stoplights and such (unless someone's on a cell while driving...then I just crank it louder...)

has anyone EVER been grateful for the music being played in someone else's car? i don't think so
no one's taste in music is so impeccable that it wont annoy someone else with equally good but divergent taste.

My preferred choice would be that you keep them up though. It's not an order or anything. I suppose I appreciate living in a country that doesn't get warm very often, so windows are usually up and if not, our own windows usually are. And German houses tend to have real good sound insulation.has anyone EVER been grateful for the music being played in someone else's car? i don't think soI plead guilty... :D

Yeah, and...?
I mean Christ, it's not like I'd pull into your driveway and do it. I have to listen to music I hate from time to time; we all do.

Well, I can see why people would be annoyed at someone playing his or her music as loud as he or she possibly can, and I keep my music at a reasonable volume - what a great movie - but I personally don't mind people blasting their stereos, simply because my speakers are pretty good as well, and I listen to Slipknot. No rap can be heard over that, and I like rock, so I don't mind hearing it.

Why did I get a bust a$$ stereo? Because the music that I listen to has some nice, but hellacious bass to it. I blew out all the the OEM speakers that came in my car because the bass in a lot of the music I listen to hit some really low frequencies. In fact, one of the songs I love is known as a bass killer. I know plenty of people who said "My speakers can handle that!" only to have to buy new subs afterward because theirs blew. LOL! (fyi it's :::Wumpscut::: "Totmacher" (VNV Nation version) melodic noise at it's best)
Plus when the bass is up just enough to make the whole car vibrate, it's like getting a massage while your driving.
I have a Sony CDX-MP70 Xplod 52Wx4, Rockford Speakers for the door and back speakers with 4 tweeters added. My amp is a Sony 1000W mono and 2 Sony Xplod 15" in a vented Band Pass case. It just barely fits in my trunk, and no room for anything else. The subs are rated to go down to 15 Hz. :D :D
I feel I must add that I also installed sound proofing foam in areas in my car where it would fit. While I cound't stop all the sound leakage, mostly all that is noticable I've found is the vibration of my liscense plate makes the most noise, along with the general vibration from the bass itself in the ground. Of course, sound proofing foam doesn't do sh!te when the window's down.
