I dunno...it's been going on for perhaps a minute of non-stop vibration...

...My TV is shaking.

And yet I'm typing.

Perhaps you'll die, oh yeah
Perhaps you'll die, oh yeah
Perhaps you'll die, oh yeah
Perhaps you'll die, oh yeah...

Er...

I'd stay outside if I were you. Buildings aren't exactly safe places to be during earthquakes :p.

I think every building here in California is meant to be built to be earthquake-safe.

DAMMIT it's happening again as I type!

It's like a really crappy vibrating bed....one that needs new batteries.

It's just over...

Still, they're not as safe as being outside. Your ceiling could cave in and flatten you.

But then I'll have to bring the speakers for my music as well.

At least I have a router. Maybe I can take my PSP...

Having speakers outside kicks ass, man. You're not in an enclosed area, so the sound is uncompromised.

Try to tell my neighbors that. No one likes listening to my 'hippy shit'. It's not hippy music. It's good music. Perhaps they would prefer a pop diva?

do you have a garage under the building?

One time, a large delivery truck got stuck in my apartment's Garage, and the shaking was due to the truck trying to get unstuck.

You're not supposed to run outside during an earthquake (remember Superman? The earth could just swallow you up, and unless a super hero is in love with you or someone else caught up in it, no one is going to turn back time for you...)

You're supposed to stand in a door way, those have the strongest structures and will protect you from falling crap.

This message brought to you by California's constant Earthquake readiness training that took up a lot of our class and resemble the 'Duck and Cover' campaign....

Nothing's in any garage of ours, and we only have our garage under our house.

That's for sure. The doorways in Akrotiri were still standing even after being buried by the volcanic eruption that took out three-quarters of the island of Santorini.

It might be safer in YOUR houses, but how does 200-year-old mortar sound for earthquake resistance! In the one time I had an earthquake at my house, I didn't realise what it was until it was over.

But back to the question, was someone using a very big subwoofer?
Or banging their head against the house? :headbang:
hmm. what else could it be... AHA!
Do you have a furnace? I know in my house when the furnace kicks in, the house will shake for a bit, depending on where you are.
And for the last question, are you using any, umm, "Illicit substances"? (Drugs)

EDIT: Is there any demolition or road construction going on nearby?

Oh wait, I suppose it might have been the construction behind my house.

But what the hell? What the fuck could be so massive that it shakes my entire house for a couple minutes?

And why hasn't this been used earlier? And why isn't it being used anymore today?

And I heard nothing from those guys all day, I figured they weren't doing much today.

The construction is behind my house, but on land like 5 feet above my house.

Wouldn't be surprised, it's S. California.

Wish we'd get a little bit of earthquake action up in NW Oregon... that Alaskan earthquake when I was four was FUN!
