Let's take a break from those religion threads:

Let's talk about the latest...uh...dunno...TV shows? Any soap operas as good as the Bold and the Beautiful to recommend? :D

What's the OC? Why is it said that viewers who like the OC will hate One Tree Hill and vice versa? (Oh damn. I just realised I missed another episode of OTH because I was cooking.)

Bleh.

One more question. I'm moving to London as a university student in September. Any useful - I stress "USEFUL" - advice from Londoners and New Yorkers who think they can pass for Londoners?

OC sucks I think, but we all would be happier people if we all watched Family Guy, Futurama, and the Simpsons 24/7.

For the underground, as you will look foreign, don't wear a big jacket (especially if it is light denim), don't jump the turnstiles (especially when you are scanning your ticket and walking through them) and don't run (especially when you are about to miss the train).

Television is the opiate of the masses.

Not anime. You'll be hard-pressed to find even half of the symbolism and philosophy in many of the series.

Yeup. I shall plaster "I AM CHINESE" all over myself. :D

If you find yourself at Liverpool Street, be sure to pop into Hamilton Hall for a pint - the only place in the City where you can get one for under 2 quid!

Oh, and there's an excellent Cornish Pasty shop just opposite it as well.

Television is the opiate of the masses.

If TV is opiate, then funny subbing must be laughing gas.

I don't watch much television...but I did here that the movie "40 year-old Virgin" is hilarious. Especially for those of us adults that still meet weekly for a little D&D.

Good luck in London. I can't imagine how exciting that must be!

I thought Nieztche said religion was the opiate of the masses...or was that Marx...then again they didn't have TV.

So I listen to Bad Religion...

O.O! That is freaky.

Though so many people are saying TV is bad, but yet no one has taken the idea of ANIME into consideration! Someone open your eyes!

Kaneda from Akira is my wallpaper.

I was once in a band that had a song called "We'll Always Have Vampire Hunter D"

My son ceaselessly watches Gundam Force (it's like Gundam for little people)

I love anime. Just not what the chop up and put on American TV.

Except that most of that philosophy and symbolism is not only often painfully obscure, but laughably absurd. Yeeeaahh, I used to be a big anime fan, until I realised that most of it is mass produced slop with American pseudo-geeks that watch it to make themselves feel intelligent in mind as the target audience.

There are some good series' and movies, but I find that most of it is trash these days.

So fake...eeek x-x I hate shows that are like that. Anime would do a better job of being a soap opera then a soap opera is now....I can think of a few types already.

Love Hina. :)

I have never watched Anime. I stopped watching cartoons a long time ago. :P
The news is where it's at. The rare time I watch tv, it's usually to catch up on what's going on in the real world.
Although I do like it when I manage to catch an episode of SG-1 on Space. :) Especially the Groundhog Day episode. That one makes me laugh every time. :)

Yea, and what was that one anime about the one boy living with all those girls. Brain Freeze.

EDIT
Ah, Tenchi, that one was practically a soap opera.

Yeah, Tenchi is actually pretty funny in places. Very little pretention too, which is nice.

Considering that their basic composition is mostly inks, I would have to say yes, they are pretty artificial. =p

yep. Use the Bus/walk instead of the Tube, that way you get to actually see the city. you'll soon learn that tube stations 2-3 stops apart are infact 5 minutes walk apart.

What Uni are you going to?

Besides Penn & Teller's Bullshit!, I really only look forward to one show on tv; LOST. Can't wait 'till September 21st for the next season.
You can't get into it unless you've seen every episode (or you'll be... oh, you know), but if you download it or have watched it from the beginning, it's like televised crack.

WTF are Hurley's numbers about? What's in the hatch? The hell is that monster (black smoke?)? Are the rafters dead? Why did the "others" take Walt?

You might not want to watch the show if you like questions answered by the end of the show. ;)

I shall also recommend a rather plesant water hole the other side of covent garden, The Harp on Chandoss St (i think. Opposite G.A.Y.). Old girl runs the place and serves a fine Guinness and bespoke sausage bagettes
