Fast Food Joints

Yeah...They're sayin' America's getting fatter. That we're consuming so much crap food and getting so little excersise that it's inevitable. And while alot of the fault is our own, it's also the fault of mega-conglomerate fast-food chains that distort and shove this crap down our throats.

So...what's your favorite fast food joint?

the 'mega-conglomerate fast-food chains' as well as the supermarkets are also cheapening and worsening the quality of the ingredients of that food as well, all in the name of profit. channel 4's recent Dispaches program on supermarkets showed, through lab testing, that a standard chicken today contains, on average, approximatley three times more (unsaturated) fats than was the case during the 1970s... no wonder heart disease, strokes, diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity are such problems today when the very food we eat - and are being sold as the 'healthy choice' (compared to fast food or ready-meals) - has been turned into unhealthy crap by these fast-food companies and the supermarkets, and without anybody taking (much) notice. and all for a quick profit
and thats in the UK, too. food standards regulations are even more relaxed in the states...

and thats avoiding the whole animal-welfare ethical question regarding factory farming, too.

sufficed to say: KFC is my favourite from the list, but Subway is my real favourite (mmmmm yummy)

While fast food places have not always disclosed what their ingredients are actually in their food, the fault for obesity that does not have origins medical disorders lie with us. We not only need to eat better but we need to move more. We need to push for bike paths and better sidewalks. It has been shown that even moderate exercise such as walking is beneficial in maintaining weight.

It's not anyone's fault but your own. You choose to eat there, and the fast food places gladly provide it. Don't like fast food, don't want to get fat? Don't eat there!

But, in other news, my favorite place is Subway. At least I can identify most of the food there.

But unsaturated fat is the more healthy kind of fat.

McDonalds. I love my Mickey Ds. I don't know where people get the idea that fast food makes you fat. When I lived off of fast food I only weighed 115 at 5'10''. Now that I've stopped eating fast food as often, I gained about 10 to 15 pounds. I guess that's okay, my doc was telling me to gain weight anyway (i don't know, I eat about 3 times as much as anyone else, ever since i was 19 i've been a twig).

There's this deli in Jamesburg, NJ that makes fried chicken and potato wedges. It's the juciest, tastiest fried chicken on earth. I don't know the name of the deli, but since it's owned by religious Muslims my friends and I often refer to it as Palestinian Fried Chicken, or PFC.

I'm a coeliac vegan, I used to think this was a curse but in reality my gluten allergy and distaste for meat has saved me from the kind of assult that your average happy meal or colonels bucket feast launches onto the average disrespected human digestive sytem. Poor old stomache I say!!
And anyway how do you fast food lovers manage to put such ugly food into your mouths?? I can almost understand the attraction of a juicy Barbequed steak with chilli sauce or those Linconshire sausages which alway look tasty with all the seasoning and herbs but the sugary salt laiden stale buns served up with a scraping of limp lettuce that looks as though it's been freshly pulled out of the compost bin and a "burger" which frankly has the appearance of shrivelled slugs is hardly treating yourself people... There is so much delicious food waiting to be sought out, please boycott Maccy D's and move on to better things!!!

I like the food from most Asian countries, so I picke "Chinese", even though I've never had "Chinese Canadian" food (chicken balls et al), but I love my sushi, and my two favourite restaurants in my town are tiny Vietnamese family-run places. I am still heart-broken that the little Chinese restaurant in my town closed.... Like, five years ago now. It had the best food ever, at the best prices...
Now I'm hungry.
I also like samosas. They are my favourite food. Whether they be Indian, Sudanese or Somali, they are the most delicious food ever. I'm nostalgic for yesterday, now. I had samosas for lunch. That was the good old day.

Right now my favorite fast food place (using the old-school definition of fast food) is Checker's.

a)There's one right on my way home from work

and

b)They have a great special, the NASCAR special: two triple-cheeseburgers for $4

--------------

OF those mentioned... I'd say I like McDonald's, Wendy's, Burger King and Hardee's about equally... each has different advantages:

McDonald's
Pro: Dollar Menu... Big Mac, which is totally unique... Chicken Selects rock when they're fresh... burgers taste good when fried in grease... meat is nice and salty, grilled chicken used in the premium salads is really good, Newman's Own dressings for said salads are good, they have a half-decent range of sauces for the Chicken Selects, they put TWO slices of cheese on the Quarter Pounder with Cheese (as opposed to one on most places' head honcho quarter-pound sandwich), best french fries of the four chains, and consistently better Coke than the others too (they put more syrup in the misture)...

Con: Service is not uniform everywhere (same with others, i'll only mention it once), they often forget to give you sauce (WHICH I ORDER EVERY TIME!) for the Chicken Selects, sometimes mess up the dressing on the salads, the salads' weight/volume is really not constant at all, and the new Premium Chicken sandwiches would be GREAT if they used regular white poppy-seed buns instead of the damn FUFU HEALTH-NUT WHOLE-WHEAT CRAP THAT RUINS THE TASTE!... and finally, the Big Mac could use another slice of cheese.

Hardee's
Pro: Thickburgers
Con: Thickburgers take forever to cook and, hence, you end up waiting at least 5 minutes for one. In this respect, Hardee's has sort of stepped out of the fast-food niche and into their very own niche.

Burger King
Pro: Flame-broiled is a nice step off the fried-burger track once in a while, Whopper with Cheese is good, Tendercrisp Chicken Sandwich and its cousins are WONDERFUL chicken sandwiches (especially with extra mayo).
Con: Maybe it's just me, but almost every BK i've ever stepped inside has been filthy... Angus burgers are far inferior to Hardee's Thickburgers, prices are higher (you can't spend less than $5 at a BK and expect to get more than half a pound of food... they seem to have suspended their version of the Dollar Menu... while there's a McDonald's nearby offering 99-cent Big Macs), and the french fries suck. Also, the pickles taste like they are actually made out of garlic instead of cucumbers. hehe

Wendy's
Pro: Like McDonald's, they have an extensive value menu (around $1 for junior bacon cheeseburger, southwest cheddar burger, quarter-pound double-stack, medium fries, small soda, frosty, chili, 5 chicken strips, etc.), they're open pretty late (uniformly, it seems) to take care of the post-midnight power hunger, their chicken sandwiches are usually pretty good, and they're always coming out with new types of chicken sandwiches and burgers to help ensure menu variety.
Con: I don't particularly like the taste of the meat in their burgers, their fries generally don't get covered with enough salt, they put onions on almost everything (or so it seems.. i don't like onions), and their classic double (two quarter-pound patties) and classic triple (three) both have only one slice of cheese. IMO, you should get at least one slice of cheese per patty.

taco bell my friends.

We had a Taco John's where I grew up... they had two great weekly events:

Taco Tuesday -- 2 hard-shell tacos for 49 cents
Softshell Saturday -- 2 soft-shell tacos for 99 cents

We'd go there after football practice and eat maybe 10 of them. lol. they were good.

as for Taco Bell, i just LOVE the steak taco supreme!

also, if you have $1.50 in your pocket, you can't do a whole lot better (for volume) than the half-pound combo burrito.

gee thanks.

just because i don't think supermarkets, fast food places et al should be ruining our food doesn't a) mean i can't eat there, nor b) give me the infinite leisure, money or time to not buy from supermarkets/fast food places, and c) it doesn't stop me finding the food tasty (lets be honest, KFC is tasty)

now if i were saying "everyone is a moron for eating food from these places!!" then that would make me a hypocrite - but thats not what i'm saying. think before you type next time

I like Subway though! They're only two in the whole of Hong Kong, and one is in my neighbourhood. Hehheh.

Do you have Kebab shops in America?
Kebabs are the ultimate drunken food, the best one i've found is down the road from my mates place in sydney (Epping), there is a kebab shop by the train station, so when you come home off the piss at 3 in the morning, you can order a double meat, double cheese kebab and gorge yourself on the walk home.... mmmm kebab

Otherwise, sushi or mc donalds is good fast food, also Curly fries with gravy...mmm.
and theres a new shop in Dickson, Canberra called Noodle Choice, which does a takeaway box or a huge plate of noodle dishes, theres about 30 choices, and you can combine pretty much any noodle and meat you want. such as mongolian lamb hokkien noodles, or my fav, no4, BBQ Box (thick egg noodles, beef, vegetables, bbq sauce) mmm. So filling, tasty, and only 9 or 10 dollars, and you could feed two small people with it.

The best takeaway food in South East Asia is a plastic bag full of fried crickets, beetles and grubs, and only costs about US$1. I like the grubs, they have a tasty centre, but the crickets are much chewier. (PS I am serious, share them with a taximeter/tuk tuk/ moto/ cyclo driver on the way home, they'll love you for it.)

Listen, if you haven't eaten at Jack in the Box then you haven't eaten fast food. If your plan is to fatten yourself up then there is no better place to do it. Their burgers are roughly half as good as my own, which is pretty good considering that the next best is Whataburger at around 33% of the quality of mine.

Unfortunately, there's not even one Jack in the Box or Whataburger in Michigan as far as I know. The best thing we have around here is A&W. They aren't a bad substitute.

You're kidding, right? White Castle burgers are scary! Hamburger meat is not supposed to be grey. And the whole concept of a "chicken ring" is just odd...

As for me, I guess I'll speak up for the American midwest and endorse Sonic. They definitely have the best burgers of any of the big fast food chains, though they don't seem to exist anywhere east of Pennsylvania.
