Many countries have great bands that never seem to leave their home country for whatever reason. So in this tread I invite you to let others know of good bands that may be known in your country, but not internationally (so no Beatles/Elvis etc).
I'll start.
Scotland:
Belle And Sebastian (http://www.belleandsebastian.co.uk/)
The Delgados (http://www.delgados.co.uk/)
The Zephyrs (http://www.thezephyrs.com/)
Mogwai (http://www.mogwai.co.uk/)

Kent.
They're famous throughout Scandinavia, so they're not really "intranational," but whatever. I can't get enough of them, even though they are insanely popular.
You can see their latest video here. (http://www.engstrand.nu/) Click on "View" above "Kent - Döda vinkeln".

They're quite internationally known, you know.

Gipsy Kings.
They were born in Southern France, in the Camargue region, around Arles, Montpelier and Les Saintes Maries de la Mer (LSMDLM or Les Saintes). Originally from Spain, their families fled to Southern France during the Spanish Civil War. As Gypsies, their roots are from India, a milennium ago.

Oh, grow up and stop it with the name-calling. INTRAnational. Apparently you didn't read the title that closely at all.

Mogwai (http://www.mogwai.co.uk/)
Really? They seem to be extraordinarily popular everywhere I go...including Eastern Europe. After all the late 80s synth-pop you get over there they're right near the top out there.
Just breaking from the thread title slightly - Sahara Hotnights. Swedish (and I'm English), but I don't think they're all that well known outside Sweden.

bolt thrower, ...
Actually I spend some time this morning listening to bolt thrower samples via amazon - got there via their WH40K sceme pictures...
Anyone ever heard about Moksha out of India? Pretty cool Iron Maiden fans who sometimes play their songs :D
bolt thrower, pitchshifter... all i can think of just now
When Bolt Thrower played Belfast in 1989 the two guitarists started a fight during the soundcheck over who got to play through the Marshall. Fact.
Probably "Therapy?"
Ignoring the fact that they have been pisch ever since they released their second demo.
Hands up if you were at their first ever gig? ... Oh, that's just me then.
Personally I always prefered Evil Priest.
Sahara Hotnights. Swedish (and I'm English), but I don't think they're all that well known outside Sweden.
"Meh" I say to them. They're not my cup of tea, but it's not like I can't stand listening to them if they're on.

Horslips
More people should listen to Horslips, particularly the Belfast Gigs and Tracks From The Vaults LPs
EDIT: Northern Ireland well kept secret - Henry McCullough - ex-Wings and Spooky Tooth guitarist (and also the chap doing most of the talking between tracks on the Dark Side Of The Moon LP) now specialising in a kind of Louisiana/Southern States swamp boogie thang.

problem with metal is that there are relatively few big bands, so any good bands worth listing tend to be international in some respectI have to agree. The best American metal bands: Metallica, Death, Slayer, Megadeth, Morbid Angel, etc., are all known internationally.
Ignoring the fact that they have been pisch ever since they released their second demo.Well, I have to disagree. I haven't heard their demos, but the only pre Nursesong that was any good that I've heard is "Skyward." And their A&M stuff is phenomenally good.

The first 7" was the beginning of the end for them as an interesting band: from then on they seemed to be fascinated with pop and metal. It was funny: I caught most of a DJ set by them last year and all they were playing were AC DC and Motley Crue. A long way from their interesting days of being heavily influenced by obscure American hardcore and post-punk bands.

Though I do have to wonder why they're playing AC/DC and Motley Crue, as Motley Crue is neither interesting nor good.

Kent is huge in Finland but that doesn't mean international :)
Sahara Hotnights is a "heard-of"
Mudhoney, Soul Asylum and Husker Du are well known too.
There are not too many international bands from Finland (HIM, Nightwish, The Rasmus, Sentenced, some dance acts etc) but most of my favourites have performed in other countries too. They will never be big in any country, not even in my tiny homeland. Giant robot, Op:l Bastards (rip), 22 Pistepirkko, Jimi Tenor, Kotiteollisuus

In New Zealand? Fuckloads, depending on what you like. There's hardly any money in it, and most of the managers here are useless so there are a lot of good bands that might never 'make it'. Currently I'm listening to the Bleeders, they're one of my favourite local bands atm.

Let's see...stuff I like personally...Spiderbait, TISM, The Birthday Party (Nick Cave), You am I, Grinspoon (early stuff), the Butterfly Effect, John Butler Trio, Midnight Oil, The Whitlams...
As far as I know, all are pretty much unknown on the world stage, with the possible exception of Midnight Oil. I could probably name more, but meh. Are the Hoodoo Guru's known overseas?
As a whole, we have a pretty ignored music scene on the international level. Our only really worthy contribution has been AC/DC...

Anyway...I am taking this from a different perspective...bands that rarely leave their hometown (and yes, I am in one of them). Here's my list of good Buffalo Bands that stay home too often:

It's enough to make me check their website.
Hey there Girls and Boys! - 7 July 2005
It's about time to let you in on what we Datsuns have been up to lately. For the last few months we have sequestered ourselves away from the world, writing and experimenting with new sounds for Datsuns LP numero 3! Everything is in readiness to record later this 2005 at an as yet undecided locale. All this has obviously been more than a slight hinderance on our touring obsessions. We obviously would love to be everywhere at once and be in your town tonight, but for right now it just ain't gonna happen. Nevertheless, even while we are deeply engrossed in composition the call of the wild still dictates we grace the stage every few weeks or so. So if your living the the country known as 'Ole Blighty or perhaps somewhere close by in Europa be on the lookout for the odd festival date or low key show near you.
So to everybody, everywhere we just can't be. We miss you, stay cool, and see you all soon.
Love

"odd festival date" = Big Day next year, is my guess. Excellent. :D

Crazy Frog ( :P )Are you sure it's still Swedish? Far as I know Jamba is German and they brought out a couple new songs that don't sound like the original...
Ah, sorry, maybe I got confused. So what do you man by intranational bands then?
Intranational would mean bands known within your country, and not really outside it.
If we're going to start talking international bands, then the Undertones or Van Morrisson would be the best from Northern Ireland probably.
Eh? You´re saying they´re not famous?
No, no....the band Refused.
Ah, okay, sorry... Crazy Frog was composed by a swede, so I consider it swedish.
