Firefox and Opera aren't fully supported on all websites. Both browsers can encounter problems when downloading from the internet. Firefox's pop-up blocker is annoying, most of the interface options are unwanted, and tabbing is overrated. I prefer IE, since it's always supported and I am in complete control. People try to point out IE's security holes, but they are easily fixed with the instant updates and a decent hardware firewall, which I would have anyway even if I used another browser. I run Spybot TeaTimer in the background as well, but I'd recommend that to everyone. The only reason Firefox hasn't had to deal with many security flaws is that it's the new kid on the block. Another favorite argument against IE is that it's slower. Well, I have news for you, it's actually faster. At least for me. And it has nothing to do with IE cookies/temp net files, the browser itself is built into the OS.

I prefer IE. Firefox does my brain in, and although I'm using it now, that's because NS looks better with it. And tabbed browsing is really handy for the forums.

If the latest IE gets tabs, I'm going straight over there.

I'm not going to get into an ideological argument about browsers with you, but you just mentioned all the reasons why I left IE - the constant security holes, the need to run a secondary programme to protect myself from the suckiness of the brower, the unwillingness to support a browser that doesn't adhere to standards and hence makes the Internet worse for others and so on...

And that whole thing about being "in control"? I gather you don't have that much experience with things lilke Firefox' extensions or its "about:config" settings.

- Security holes are instantly patched with Windows Update as soon as I log in. Once some of the bastards flock to Firefox, you'll see that its security isn't so hot. Firefox is already feeling the pressure (http://www.mozillazine.org/talkback.html?article=7059).

- A second program is not needed for protection unless you're going to obviously insecure sites and download an ActiveX control or something stupid like that. If you think Firefox will solve all your problems, guess again.

- What do you expect from a giant corporation like Microsoft? The fact of the matter is, IE is integrated into the OS and performs better for me than the other browsers, without having to tweak many things. That's all I care about.

- About control, your response is laughable. You can download and install extensions for IE as well, Firefox isn't special in that regard. As for about:config, sure, you can modify obscure preferences, but the user interface is incomplete and who honestly cares, unless you're a grease monkey. I don't even give a shit about extensions and preferences, so it's null and void with me. I care about being in control of the main features without having to tweak a bunch of hidden and otherwise useless crap.

And responding with record speeds and full transparency, and actually issuing updates and not just bug fixes. When was the last time IE got a new function? Half a decade or so?

- A second program is not needed for protection unless you're going to obviously insecure sites and download an ActiveX control or something stupid like that. If you think Firefox will solve all your problems, guess again.

So it's only secure if you don't actually go where you want to go and adapt your surfing after your sucky browser and also run an extra programme in the background? Got ya.

- What do you expect from a giant corporation like Microsoft? The fact of the matter is, IE is integrated into the OS and performs better for me than the other browsers, without having to tweak many things. That's all I care about.

I expect very little from Microsoft - you're making my point for me. OS integration is what made IE suck and be such a security risk from the beginning.

- About control, your response is laughable. You can download and install extensions for IE as well, Firefox isn't special in that regard. So, your idea of "in control" is "I have a few more superfluous buttons to click"? Oh, that's just cute.

So, your idea of "in control" is "I have a few more superfluous buttons to click"? Oh, that's just cute.

- The thing is, problems are also popping up at record speed. When a team releases updates every week, that should send off a red alert that the browser is unstable and insecure. As Firefox gains popularity, even more fixes will be needed. IE doesn't need new functions, it performs its duty perfectly fine with minimal interference, unlike Firefox which just loves to butt in. Oh, and 'updates' are just a collection of fixes.

- It's secure as long as you don't click the damn activeX control option and allow it to download. You can easily configure IE security settings to handle that crap automatically, or you can choose to go manual. Unlike Firefox, which wants to handle everything by itself and ends up f***ing up the webpage. Oh, and do I need to scream? OPEN SOURCE, OPEN SOURCE!!!

- News flash, SP 2 fixed the major security risks concerning OS integration. You should try IE sometime, you're making it appear as if you haven't used it in years.

- This made me chuckle. My idea of 'in control' is being able to surf the web when I want, how I want, and with as few problems as possible. Firefox is slower, it isn't fully supported by many websites, it has compatibility trouble with plugins, it wants to do everything by itself, hackers and their ilk are watching it like hungry dogs, and the few useful tweaks are hidden in obscurity, surrounded by a bunch of utter bullshit and useless preferences.

Then try and don't start them in the future. I use FF myself but it's very irritating when smartasses come around pointing out all the horrible failings of something I find perfectly usable (or at least ok). Continue using FF and be happy with it but please don't make [ ] at those who use other browsers.
