I had an idea. I'm going to try and patent it, and maybe build it, if I have the resources to do so.

The idea is this: You want to be able to incapacitate suicide-bombers, so that they won't be able to blow themselves up and harm anyone, without having to accomplish that through killing them (in case they aren't REALLY suicide-bombers). Non-lethal weaponry weaponry is useless, because though it guarantees that the person wouldn't be killed, it isn't strong enough to ensure that it'll always work. Current less-lethal weaponry, such as tasers, tranquilizers, and lasers intended to blind persons, isn't usually fail-safe, because there's always the chance that it could harm someone or that it wouldn't work.

Therefore, I've got a solution. A net composed of carbon nanotubes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_nanotube) (or some other highly-durable synthetic fiber), which could be fired from a bazooka, or even more ideally, a rifle (if the fiber can be compressed small enough, to fit into a small chamber).

When seeing a suspected suicide-bomber, you fire, the net wraps around them like a blanket, and if they are suicide-bombers, they'll be trapped, so that even if they attempt to blow themselves up, the explosion will be contained within the bag. And if they aren't suicide-bombers, then they'll be perfectly safe. No danger of a reaction to tranquilizer, no danger of a heart-attack from tasers, and no danger from an epileptic seizure from one of those blinding lasers. It would also be fairly easy to aim.

If you wrap them in a plastic bag that can contain an explosion, they will suffocate. I would rather be shot than die that way.

interesting concept. but if the material is strong enough to contain the explosion, then how do you get them out? the material would be pretty tough, there would be no openings (if the explosion is completely contained.) and when opened, what's stopping the bomber from then detonating the bomb?

Although seriously, Almost any sort of medium-caliber machinegun will make short work of a car. That's a guaranteed car-stopper right there. Spike strips too....

A friend of mine has invented the ultimate martyr stopper- a slingshot that shoots pork sausages. It is, after all, widely known that if the bomber's remains are mixed with pig flesh, he doesn't get to go to Heaven. The only problem is, my friend can't stop herself from eating the ammo :eek:

Of course, the weapon could only work preemtively, because noone today expects pig's remains to be flung at them. The solution would have to be if everyone flung pig's remains at everyone all the time.

Also, sometime back I read about an Israeli proposal to hang pig lards in buses and public places so the lard would mix with the flesh of the suicide bomber and so he wouldn't get to meet his 72. What happened to that ?

that isnt your idea,net-firing weapons have been in cartoons and other tv shows for years.what we need is an acme suicide bomber stopping kit.it wont work but it'll provide some much needed comic relief

The reason that suicide bombs work is that you don’t know who or when. You would have to shoot everyone that is within bombing range of you. Good Luck.
