ok, i'm trying to set up Limewire Pro - for totally legal reasons of course - and i'm having no luck at all. back at uni it worked fine but i'm using a different router here and.... its simply not working when i think it should be. so... help!
this copy of the program also works round a friend's house on his wireless network, so i conclude that its a problem with my firewall settings - something i am not too savvy about.
i don't have windows or any other software firewall running
my router (netgear DG834) has a built in hardware firewall
when the program loads it simply says "connecting" and does nothing
it works on port 6346 and i have set that up as a TCP/UDP service in the router's settings
i have then set up a firewall rule to always allow inbound traffic coming from that service/port to be sent to my PC's IP on the home LAN (192.168.0.whatever), allowing any WAN users to send packets.
that would seem to be all you have to do (certainly was on my uni router) but it just doesn't work :headbang:
so, appealing to the collective genious of you lovely, lovely NSers... any thoughts?
might using some kind of proxy thingy help out? what the hell is all this "proxy" nonsense anyway? socks v4, socks v6, HTTP proxies... what
any help or info would be helpful! :)
i've tried googling for info on proxies but it all assumes a level of knowledge i just don't have (my level of knowledge is zero :P )
thanks :fluffle:
