Do most people live up to their outwardly presented moral or behavioral codes?

Yes, but it all goes to pot when I'm drunk.

I tend to be a lot more morally weak than I would like to think I am although I constantly try to improve on it

I can only speak for myself, and I'm under the impression that I do. I defend my values and I agree with people based on their arguements, not their history.

Most people sincerely try to live up to their moral standards. Failure to do so is not necessarily hypocrisy but a failure of character.

if you are requiring a 100% compliance then no one does

we all break our own rules from time to time. mostly on smaller issues. we tell a little lie to ease a social situation, for example.

I think we all TRY to live based on our moral codes. But because of the unpredictable nature of the world around us, it's inevitable that we fall short every so often. But, we try.

Then of course there is the minority of people, the demogogues and true hipocrites who take up the banner of a moral code for their own purposes and then abandon it (see; politicians, all). The "Do as I say, not as I do" Policy.

I wouldn't say that this refutes your post or anything, but your words made me think of my morals changing... Some because I couldn't live up to them and trying to retain them would seem like hypocrisy to me.

I live up to my own moral standards, but then again, my standards are pretty low. :D

Yes, I agree a person's morals can change as they grow older or through life experiences. That isn't necessarily bad, what it does mean is the person is re-evaluating their life.

Hypocracy.

What's that, rulership by the inferior?

By my own estimations, based purely on opinion and observation:

All but the tiniest minority (99%) would say they try to live up their own moral codes. Most (75%) do consciously think about it and attempt. Many (65%) succeed much (70%) of the time. Very few (15%) succeed nearly all (90%+) of the time.

That would be the "other with explanation"

No, that's democracy.

Hypocracy - Hypo (lower) + cratos (rule)
Democracy - Demon (servant of satan) + cratos.

I can't answer that poll 'cause I'd need to know what said people stood for in comparison with how they live.

I have very high moral standards and try to live up to them - of course I don't always succeed, but hey - better than having low standards and meeting them right on, right?

in any case hypocrisy isnt not "not living up to your stated moral values". especially since, as i said before, no one does. at least not 100%.

hypocrisy is dissing someone else for not living up to THEIR moral code when you dont either.

like if i dissed you for bad spelling when i cant even be bothered to use good punctuation.
