Frustrated with Student Loans!!!!

I'm sooo frustrated today and I just have to get it off my chest!! I am all enrolled and set to go to college in September. I almost 27 and married, so it has been a few years since I have been is school. I have applied to the goverment for student loans....and guess what? We make TOO much money to qualify, even though we only make enough to cover bills each month!! They expect a Canadian married couple to live off of roughly $1440/month! So the government is perfectly willing to give some 18 year old, who has NO experience with bills and debt, a student loan....but not me, an established, responsible adult! I just think that is ridiculous!! Especially since we have proven that our money coming in equals our money going out! Oh well, I guess that is the government for you!! But on the bright side, not all hope is lost. Today, I have applied for a student loan through the bank, which we should be able to get....so wish me luck!! Has anyone else on here found frustration over student loan situations? Just curious....I'm sure that I can't be the only one!

WHY I DESERVE A PLACE IN SKUL (http://www.anu.edu.au/polsci/marx/int/internationale.html)
Or you could just suck it up, and stop voting for socialists. Either one.

Why do you want an "edukashun" in the first place?
Secondly, it's your government: So if they won't give you a loan, maybe you should question your voting habits.

Do you know ANYTHING about the Canadian government?.....or anything about the Alberta government?.....I don't understand where the socialist thing came in because the Alberta government is lead by a Conservative party.....and our lovely Prime Minister is Liberal!!.....so I still have NO idea what you mean????????????????????????

I'm not too well versed in the canadian education system, but i am in the same position as you, married, in my twenties and only making enough to get by...and i've been offered tons of dosh, most of which isn't loans. the thing is, starting in april i devoted myself to berating the financial aid office in every way i knew possible, once they said they weren't going to offer us much. i called, wrote letters, went up there in person and shoved my way past the work-study gophers--even called the head of financial aid for the entire university of texas system-until i got what i needed...going ueber-bitch on their asses is the only way to get attention (read: money) in the states, as the way they calculate it all up in recent years is that a student with a 12 hour minimum will also be carrying a full-time job, for the purposes of doling out the aid. it's a totally bogus situation. i hope it all gets sorted out!!

Suck it up. My family makes about $90,000 a year, and our government tells us that we can afford about $45,000 a year to send my brother and I to college, while providing for my two other siblings. Then most private loan companies tell us that we don't make enough money to justify loaning us $45,000 a year. So I am forced to take our crappy loans with astronomical interest rates in my own name, which are currently wreaking havoc with my credit score. Your situation is far from as bad as you'd like to think it is.

Listen to the Dave Ramsey show a few times, and you'll be kinda glad that you haven't gotten any student loans :D

Ohhh, I'll still be getting student loans...but it will be through a bank at a higher interest rate...and there will be no government grant...you see, in Canada when you get government student loans then sometimes they will give part of it to you in a grant that you don't have to pay back.

Don't piss and moan about how awful your situation is and then not expect other people to tell you you're being over-dramatic.

That's really not how it works here. If you don't want to get called on it, don't type it. It's your choice.

I get some money because I went to private banks and got private loans, something that is well within your ability to do. I get $0.00 from the government.

Becuase you are lazy.
School != Money.
Only go to school if you think you will enjoy it; otherwise, why bother?

I'm more frustrated over the government bureaucracy involved in getting a student loan....I was mis-informed by government workers TWICE....and the appeal process takes 4-6 weeks...when school starts on the 7th....the red tape for government student loans is insane and all of the work that I did just to get a "NO"...and I'm sure that the government doesn't need to make it so hard....

No your not. In Ireland students can't apply for student loans similar to those inthe US and Canada. We do have a grant system which is totally abused. A friend of a friend lives with her grandparents so she is entiled to a grant-but she never goes to class-has enough money to stay in the most luxurious accomodation the college offers, does not have to take a part time job and has money to go out all the time. I have always had to work part time, had to buy my own bks,clothes and pay my own fees. I don't mind. There are ppl in a far worse position than me. But I am not eligable for a grant even tho my parents(who just make over the standard amount) cannot afford to pay for me. It sucks but there is nothing I can do about it. As per usual in this country its the farmers that get all the damn money.
