No, because what they do is none of my buisness. However, I do hate seeing when people smoke around small children, or when they smoke in specifically designated Non-Smoking Areas.

However, I'm never in intimate relationships with smokers. My favorite thing about people is their lips & smile, and yellow teeth and smokers halitosis is highly unappealing.

i DO dislike being in the smoke stream from the end of a cig though. seems to happen to me quite often when im sitting with smokers.

I don't hate it, and as a point of fact I take tremendous pains to make sure I'm not inadvertantly blowing my smoke at people. When standing in a group outside, I blow my drags straight up and hold the cigarette out at my side and behind me, adjusting for the wind to keep the smoke from other people. Inside, I am capable of some interesting contortions to keep smoke out of other peoples' eyes and shit.

Given these considerations, I find it quite irritating when people demand I extinguish my cigarette simply because I'm within a certain proximity of them, particularly if it's easily avoided, like say outside. I don't really have much experience with smoking in public places, since by the time I turned 18 most places had already banned it. Before I turn 21, they've already banned it in bars too.

It's their bodies. I don't like it but I respect it. As long as they do it away from me.

It's when they do it in a crowd of people when it starts to piss me off.

Why? Of all the rest of your life illnesses it is among the least treatable and shortest rest of your lifedoms there are. In short, they are cheaper than welfare reciepients by a long shot.
Have to agree though, it's no one's business but thier own, and if we start messing with them, then who's next?

I try to avoid smokers for the most part because I normally can't stand to be physically around the smoke. But I guess I can mentally psyche myself up for it because I can tolerate it when I go to bars where there's a smoking section and I'm going to be around it. But I only do that once or twice a week.

I do to see it, because I know sooner or later there are going to serious ramifications for them. My aunt died of lung cancer( brought on by almost 40 yrs. of smoking cigarettes) and at the end her lungs were so badly damaged she could barely talk, and she looked like a skeleton. It was a no one deserves, and I'd imagine VERY painful.

I feel it's an individual choice whether to smoke or not, so it doesn't bother me. I often invite people to smoke in my presence - it doesn't bother me that much, and not that many smokers around anyway - but they always either decline, roll down the window, or smoke outside. Bothers me little if they aren't blowing the smoke in my face. Most smokers seem to be well-mannered.

Hate is too strong a word. I dislike it when people smoke, but as long as they aren't in a No Smoking area, it's their choice and their lungs. Now, the smell of cigarette smoke gets closer to hate. Damned teen smokers that crowd up the path and smoke all manner of burning substances...

I was raised to think it was so bad that I thought smokers were bad people. Once, as a teen, I avoided helping a girl(who was pretty too) who slipped on the ice, because there was a cig in her hand. Luckily she wasn't hurt at all, but I began to feel really bad, dwelled on my guilt, couldn't concentrate in classes all day, etc. It was the catalyst that helped me see a bigger picture, plus with age you get more exposure to society. Anyway I'm still very sorry and I can be friends with smokers. I never really had anyone try to smoke AT me anyway. I work with smokers and there's never a problem. I'd hate to be forced to be in a smoke filled room but that never happens, and I'd hate to see a small child in such a place with his smoking parent.

In Spain, they smoke a lot, and everywhere. I'm a smoker, and even I got grossed out a few times. Smoking is a neutral thing there; some people do it, some don't, whatever.
In France, smoking is not allowed inside many restaurants and public indoor spaces etc. There, smoking is a bad thing; bad for your health and expensive.
In Canada, it is illegal to smoke almost everywhere, and frowned on everywhere else (even in your own home). Smokers are "bad people", here; stupid, inconsiderate, immoral.
I don't know when we made the leap from smoking being bad to smokers being bad, but I don't like it. The rest of the world is laughing at us, just fyi.

I hate watching people smoke, but I'm not one of those annoying, nosy people that will inevitably demand the offending controlled fire be extinguished. If it's getting in my face, that's a different story; I don't do well with cigarette smoke, it burns my nose and eyes, so I will ask people doing that to put the cigarette out or move (or, if I'm outside, just step somewhere else <.<).

I really don't understand the appeal of cigarettes. I understand that after a little while it tends to be an addictive habit, but the first couple times? Eh. Pinky from "Pinky and the Brain" said it best when he asked Brain why people would want to suck burning, poisonous leaf gasses down their throat all the time.

:D Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of:

1 Corinthians 6:18-20 18Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. 19Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? Cars are also helping the planet get a lot warmer than it should be, and that's likely to mess us all up for a lot longer than a cigarette will. Priorities, dear.

I don't smoke anymore, but I was never hooked, so it was easy for me to quit. I'll tell you, though, one thing I really liked about California was the ability to go out to a bar, stay all night, and not smell like an ashtray when I left. If I wanted to hang with my smoking friends, I could always step outside with them, maybe even cop a drag or two, but it wasn't like being in a bar here in Florida, where you can't escape it.

Anyway, it does stink, but I only do it outside, and I wash my clothes and body regularly, so it's not an overly-difficult proposition to keep things reasonably clean. Besides, I find people who reek of cologne or heavy perfume to be far more offensive than someone smelling somewhat of tobacco.

If you hate seeing smokers smoke, I suggest that you simply close your eyes. If smoke reaches you, I suggest you go to the smoker and tell him that he is in violation of and polluting your private air-space.

Come on people, with this smoking thing already. There are a billion other things that do far, far more damage than cigarettes, and they are part of everyday life of many people, everywhere. Smoking is definitely a harmful activity, and no personal rights of those non-smoking should be violated, but still...

Think that running cars on uncatalysed "unleaded" is less harmful for you and your surroundings? You think that drinking cola does less damage to your insides? You think most new and "thoroughly tested" medicinal drugs do less damage? You think that keeping your cell phone close to your head fries your brain less? You think that eating junk food creates less cancer or heart problems?

Smokers are free to abuse their bodies as far as they believe they can take, until they perhaps die of it.

What about the other people that think that cancer, or a stroke, or a heart attack, "just happens" to them? ;)

I don't have to move away. I can just hack all over their face, that's my way of bitching.

Especially after drinking a cup of milk. All that phelgm in my throat will look nice on their face, just as their smoke is nice all over mine.

Simple.

He may have been there first.

Also..I highly doubt you have ever spit in anyones face, let alone an adult smoker.

If Im outside..and smoking..I have just as much right to be where Im standing as you do.
If Im smoking, and you dont like it.....its far easier for you to move away from the source of the annoyance, than to be assinine about it.

Now..If I was in your home, and your family were non smokers..I would simply take it outside.

Because of the fact that you choose not to smoke and you want to avoid that. If you don't really want to - if you can't be arsed to move away from a source of irritation - that's your own damn problem.

Freedom of choice. Learn it, live it, love it.

Cars power the world, the economy, and our lives. Cigarettes are addictive death sticks. Bad comparison.

Irrelevant. You were saying that cigarettes ruin the SMELL of your car. You were NOT discrediting them based on the (perceived) merit or utility of their use.

Now if you want to ban things that do not "power the world," well let's make a list shall we, of all the useless products everyone including yourself uses. It'll be a long list.

And frankly, cars are addictive (drivers and riders can't even imagine what their life would be like without 'em! how's that for addiction!) and their death sticks put out FAR more pollution, causing far more stink in the world.

And how is it cigarettes make your CAR smell bad? Do you really think your car smells GOOD? I'm not fond of gasoline fumes and engine exhausts myself, but hey to each his own.

Damn straight - and while we're at it, I should have the freedom to throw trash on the street instead of in a bin; companies should be allowed to dump toxic waste in public parks; my dog should have the right to drop a steaming pile of crap wherever it wants...and for that matter, I should be allowed to tinkle or drop a log wherever I feel like it...it's freedom goddamnit! :D

This is funny because most of the people I know are non-smokers, yet they all have friends/family who do smoke and none seem to have a problem with it as far as I can tell. There's even this girl I know who is also a non-smoker who finds a man smoking to be sexy, in a rugged sort of way. Oh, and I don't mind seeing people smoke because as a former smoker I know that in times of stress or disorder, a cigarette can be mighty refreshing and relaxing. And if you're going to smoke, for God's sake, smoke a Newport.

I agree. ;) Especially the trash on the street and dog crapping parts. Homeless people can make good use of "trash" and dogs should not be punished for being dogs.

Natural Selection , my friend, smokers are just ensuring less of their genes in Gene Pool.Ummm...
Do you, in fact, understand the concept of natural selection?
I'm 17, have been smoking for almost seven years, and am old enough to have kids. Even if I died at 35 from lung cancer, I could have ten kids by then. You need to take yourself out of the gene pool before you reproduce to take your genes out of the gene pool. Aside from that, smoking is not hereditary.

I'm not a big fan of smoking. What really annoys me is at some parties, when even non-smokers have a cigar. I hate the smell of those things. I tried a pipe once, and that was it for me.

True, but it would be nice if it worked out that way...oh well

-Then again, if most people find smoking unnattractive, people that smoke wont reproduce. So to help natural selection we could help people realize that smoking is gross/unhealthy (well it is...). Then again if people are 'stupid' enough not to realize that maybe they shouldn't reproduce either... agah... then again again they might just be misinformed, which is ok... i think... and i dont care...- O.o

I'm working on it. and aside from being what most others consider physically attractive I'm doing a pretty good job.

Plus, I could never have a kid. if i accidentally did... I would end up one of those wacko moms that ends up strangling their own children o.o
