As a US citizen, this will entitle me to several privileges including but not limited to...

smoking
getting laid
voting for a kakistocracy
serving as a biased juror
shooting foreigners for a living
...etc.

...and yet I still can't have a beer!

lol.

When I turned 18, my options were:

smoking - but I didn't want to
getting laid - but I had buckleys... of course, I'd been able to do it legally since 16 (which is age of consent, I think).
voting for a kakistocracy - wtf? but yeah, I could vote as of this age.
serving as a biased juror - yeah. But only if I get called up for jury duty (which hasn't happened yet)
Drink a beer

haha!

If we gave people alcohol when they're younger
They woul be less tempted to drink when older

You should visit me in Cincinnati when you come through. Get trashed and pass out on the University commons.

Drinking age was 19 in the US. They raised it to 21 9 days before I turned 19. :headbang: I was pissed. Get this: I'm in a wheelchair and even I had to register for selective service. What were they going to do with me? use me as an APC?

Works for some (like me), but not for others (like my mates).

In real life I don't drink much at all, and have excellent self-control in that regard.

agreed - gets it out of your system.

then again it probably does lower the age at which kids start to expriment with booze - bloody 14 and 16 year olds getting mashed on cheap own-brand lager...
but then the UK does have something of a problem with binge drinking, chavs and an unhealthy booze culture (unlike, say, France)

edit: worked for me. got a 'been there done that' attitude to booze now - the novelty and excitement has worn off. i'm 20.

At least if you join the army you have a chance of getting lucky and being posted to a country with better drinking laws.

Although probably not.
