Hey - I've noticed a lot of Australians around here (not surprising, considering Max Barry himself is an Aussie).

So I thought maybe a thread where all the Australians could say "g'day"! :p

I'll start, I'm in Melbourne, Victoria...

You can tell that Arvensis is a local. He's part of the conspiracy to keep the place a secret.

Since I live in Newcastle but wasn't born here, I feel free to tell you that the surf is better than Surfers Paradise, the harbour's more fun than Sydney's (since Greenpeace blocked it, anyway), the scenery's so great it makes you feel guilty about not sharing it, the cultural scene's hot and the place must have elastic sides, because every new bunch of migrants that comes here stays here ... excuse me, there's someone at the door ... MMPHH! GLRRG! THUMP!

This is an official announcement. The City of Newcastle is boring, ugly, uninteresting and uncultured. You will continue to believe this. That is all.

G'day. :)

I was born in Melbourne, grew up in Warrnambool, moved back to Melbourne to go to Uni and stayed there until 2 years ago. Now I live in the US (met a Yank and married him) and so I swapped Howard for Bush. Gods, what was I thinking?!?!

I've got to tell you, America's not so bad to live in. Sure, the weather's crap (it SNOWS here in winter and the temperature stays sub-zero for two or three months), and the Republicans are even worse than the Libs (if such a thing is possible), but on the whole the people are pretty good (even if over half of them drive 4WDs on normal city streets) and not half so arrogant on an individual basis as the nation is perceived of as a whole.

But I do miss my sunburnt country. :(

Hell, no. No speaking Yank for me. :p Mind you, after 36 years living in Aus I'd be hard-pressed to lose the Aussie accent now. Most people here think it's an English accent, though. Some pick it as Aussie, but one notable exception was someone who thought it was Irish!

Mind you, I have got used to hearing the American accent. Those times I've managed to fly home for a visit, I've reached the terminal at LAX and heard the Aussies waiting to get on the plane - they all sounded like they came from outback Queensland! lol It only takes a few minutes to get used to hearing it again, though, thank God.

I love New ... I love New ... I love New South Wales ... go New South Wales
LMFAO

I was born and raised in NSW, and up until 18 months ago, had lived nowhere else... worked with a guy when those ads came out, who was a Qld'er thru and thru... his computer desktop photo was of his prized maroon Chev... we uploaded it and coloured it blue, dropped it back on his desktop with the whole I love... thing stencilled on it...

Damn, reading this thread is making me feel homesick.

BTW, if it helps any, I voted 'expat' but I lived in Victoria all my life, so you can add another one to Vic in your heads if you want. ;)

Anyone here from the northern suburbs of Melb? I lived in Epping/Lalor/Mill Park (consecutively, not concurrently) for about 14 years...

Makes me laugh when Aussies run down their country and want to live abroad when everyone else is busting a gut to go live there!

Been all around the world and OZ rules (I am not Aussise) so you guys wanting to leave??? YOU'LL BE BACK (especially if you move to england, outside of London it's depressing).

No, unless it also contained a toilet. I wouldn't consume beer and junk food in the toilet.

Although....hmmm.
