metal and rap....maybe a little faithless and daft punk
Classical and opera (especially La Boheme and Rienzi)
A fast steady rhythm, plenty of texture, and maybe some vocals.
This means that I like techno, gothic, symphonic metal, and quite a bunch of other songs that fit my needs.
I don't listen to genre's because of the genre.
I love all music except Twangy country. Otherwise, I like it all. I'm very ecclectic when it comes to music.

I like rock and metal (as my nation's name makes obvious), and a few country songs aren't too bad. I'm not really into electronic music, but I like Kraftwerk. I've never had much of a taste for rap.
If I had to pick a favourite kind of music, it'd be German music. :D

Rammstein is considered indie rock.
Rammstein is also considered industrial metal, though they like to call themselves "tanzmetal". I prefer calling them industrial metal. It's more specific than saying indie rock.
I used to have a really narrow taste in music (rock, and metal), but now days if something has a funky beat and isnt too slow, or too country I probably like it, from Middle Eastern beladi, to slightly pop 'club remixes'.
It's quite good liking lots of music types, since it means at any one time there is more music I am likely to like. ;)

Pretty much anything classed as rock, any rock genre really, with the exception of a few band, and the really heavy stuuf, although I do like a bit of really heavy stuff. Favourite bands are Led Zep, Black Sabbath, the Beatles, the Hives (so so so very good!), Metallica, SOAD, Althlete, Zutons.
I like to think I'm pretty open minded, I'll listen to anything, apart from rap, hip hop, dance, trance, manufactured pop, the fake r'n'b (Real rhthmn(sp?) and Blues is far better)
On a side note...How are Rammstein classed as Indie rock? Indie is more Oasis, Stone Roses, Kaiser Chiefs, Killers etc...Rammstein are Industrial if anything, not that I care too much about labels and genres, just that seemed rather unusual.
:) I like most forms of music. I'm not crazy on rap,or real country as in Dolly Parton. I don't like heavy metal or techno. I really like RnB tho

its the latter crap i don't like - the stuff that is apparently, by grace of the media, "indie"
i don't mind in the least real indie (though i couldn't actually name any "real indie" bands, though a friend of mine at uni is really quite into his indipendent/unsigned indie bands so i hear a fair bit...)

Well, if you take the broad definition of "independent label" (ie. not under Epic, Sony, etc...), you probably listen to a lot of "indie" stuff without realising it. Indie doesn't make sense as a genre.

DJ Tiesto has got to be one of the best DJs I've heard in a long time. My only exposure to Ferry Corsten was a very, very nice much more trancey vesion of Apoptygma Berserk's "Kathy's Song". I happen to love that song. I'm not sure what you can get in your area, but if pure trance really moves you try Lasgo and/or Ian Van Dahl.

I think most modern music is crap.
Personally, I don't think the overall quality of music has changed much. There was plenty of crap released during the 60's, 70's, and 80's too, and a lot of the good stuff went relatively unnoticed until well after their time. The only difference is that we don't have any super-bands and artists since Nirvana died.
"Alternative rock" I'd say would be bands such as Muse....indie is more whiney and crap (sorry... :p ) eg Travis, Coldplay...
Heh, either way, when you go to a shop and buy the cd it all comes under "rock" anyway.
Hmm. I didn't think Travis and Coldplay came under "indie". I thought it applied more to stuff like Franz Ferdinand...and..um, I saw a band live once that sucked...they were supposedly indie.
