someone tell me why....

why do n00bs (not nice newbies) do the whole thing with the pointless use of annoying smilies?? i just don't get it... :headbang: :headbang: :gundge: :mp5: :mp5: :upyours: :sniper:

a perfect example: http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=9462400&postcount=54

i especially don't understand the over-zealous use of this one (in normal, polite threads): :upyours:
why oh why do they do it?

It's because n0065 lack the verbal skills to express themselves in words. The more intelligent ones soon get the hang of communicating with words, sometimes even learn proper spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure. Others just get ignored or flamed until they take their toys and go home.

I've always wondered about that one...

I don't think I've used any of the gun/middle finger smilies..

for me, it had to do with the emoticons being some i hadn't seen on other forums. so i usually ended posts with something like :

pointless emoticons! GO!
:headbang: :headbang:  :sniper: :sniper: :gundge: :mp5: :mp5: :fluffle:

and so forth. that lasted for about 20 posts, then i got over it.

Really? This has actually happened? Wow.

It's all still theoretical. I don't have an acutal example of such a transformation.

Hint for them with Firefox and Adblock: it is possible to adblock individual GIFs such as smilies individually. Personally I will never see the sniper and mp5 smilies again unless I change my settings.

Same here.

I do love those gun smiley ones, though I don’t use them anymore. I’ve never used the angry smiley flipping the bird because I find the action to be a mark of ignorance and/or immaturity.

Why is there a middle finger smiley when writing out the words "Fuck You" and directing them towards another poster can get you warned, banned, or deleted for flaming?

Also, gun smileys are permitted, but posting "I'd like to shoot you with my MP5" may get you punished for making a threat. Is it OK to violate forum rules as long as it's done with a spherical, colorful character?

That's it, I'm reporting this in moderation. You'll be the test case for whether or not middle finger smileys are within forum rules.

Then again, I'm no rat, and I can take a joke unlike some on this forum.

If you are assuming that the gundge smiley has been commonly accepted to mean masturbation at times, then I see where you are coming from.

In your dirty little mind, you immediately thought of "intercourse is better than masturbation" instead of "love is better than war".

I feel the urge to write something like "At least I have enough of a mind to be able to spell 'gunge' correctly", but I'm currently being distracted by a couple of squirrels going at it on the garden.

And just think kids, one day people like me will be running the country.
