Zing! (State of film satire from Onion)

The Onion (http://theonion.com/opinion/index.php?issue=4133) has done a nice piece of satire on film that hits home for me a little bit.

For me, the highlight is this:
Where was the villain? A story's not going to keep an audience on the edge of their seats without a strong opposition. Where was the second-act turning point? You've gotta have that moment when the hero's at the end of his rope and the bad guy looks like he's going to win it all.

When you study screenwritting you actually get that crap-hell, when you talk to producers you get that crap. You want to shake them and say-"Hey-all the other narrative forms have abandoned that rigidity, all the movies that are being talked about have abandoned us-AUDIENCES ARE ONLY AS STUPID AS YOU MAKE THEM!!!!"

But they have all the damn money.

This summer is a great summer to be a film person:
Ingmar Bergman has a new film out. Yeah, I didn't know he was still alive either.

Werner Herzog has a new doc.

Wim Wender has one.

Jim Jarmusch(sp)

Gus Van Sant (though I've heard from a reliable source that it chews-like Elephant II

And everyone is flocking (haha....pun) to see a Penguin movie. Good on you all. If you want better films you have to go see better films. Thank you.

The shallow movies are floundering. Yay!

Comments? Random bitching about 'Hollywood' even though that is not really an accurate thing to call film anymore?
