I don't live with air conditioning except on the train I take between Berlin and Cottbus or when I'm at a lecture. Other than that, I have to open my window.

Yup, I don't know anybody who has air conditioning in their house...it doesn't get that warm here. Alot of cars would have it though.

Of course I can live without air conditioning, but I chose not to.
this has been a tough season so far- its been in the 90s and very high humidity for the better part of two months.

My July electric bill was over $300.00.

I'm thankful for A/C. And the pool.

I've spent a lot of time in Arizona-north and south. I found that even when its 100 degrees there, if you step into the shade, its actually comfortable.
Here on the New jersey Shore, we've had consistant high temps all day and night, with high humidity the whole time.

I bet I lost 5 lbs playing golf this past Sunday.

No air condistioning for me, but I would like it. it's really humid right now. I hate British weather in the summertime.

I'm sure I could, but I wouldn't want to. We generally get two straight months of temperatures over 100 here, and it doesn't cool down until almost 10.

I just got central A/C put in my house. I live in South Florida. The heat index here is usually around 105F all summer long. It's BRUTAL.

YAY for Air conditioning!!

Can i live without AC? Absolutely. Last summer when we got hit by Hurricane Charley, we were without power for two weeks. No cooking, no air conditioning, no fans, no nothing. I didn't mind it so much. Just poured jugs of water over my head to cool down.

What i DID mind was not having running water for a week.

NOw that's barbaric!

Not where I'm at. The only reason I've been going out in shorts all the time is because my liver was doing overtime cleaning my bloodstream and my body temperature was a bit higher than usual.

EDIT: We may have had the highest temperatures ever in Germany, but that was only for a few days, to be honest.

No...

It gets over 100 Degrees out here, I'd surely perish.

I'm pretty sure it is normally cooler in Europe than in the US. If I could get central air in my house I'd love it rather than a rather ineffeciant AC. But living without an AC would be awful.

All we have is window units, but not in my bedroom, which is ironically enough on the highest floor in the house (which means the heat rises there), so all I have at night is a fan, and an all but naked at night... :(

But living without an AC would be awful.I don't have to heat my apartment during winter for architectural reasons. I have no AC, and when I try to get air to course through my room, it usually only cools the part near the window. And I can't really leave my window open. The road nearby seems to be attractive to half the city for some reason, and the way the dorms are built causes the traffic sounds to echo at an intolerable level...
Doesn't really matter that much that it was a bit cooler...

Same here, it's crazy without air conditioning down here near the equator, unless you're in the water constantly that is. Unlike in places where it's dry, like out west, in the shade here, you're just protected from the sunlight, it's still just as hot and humid just less direct heat. Montana- that must've sucked to be without power for two weeks. My grandparents know just how you feel, they live in Gulf Breeze, just outside Pensacola, where the eye of Dennis went right over their house.

I am living without air conditioning. It was stuffy at first, but you get used to it. That and taking three showers a day.

You got an "Amen" from me Tropical! I went through 7 direct-hit hurricanes in 5 years where I live (eastern seaboard) and nothing compares to the misery of not being able to have a decent bath - or trying to wash your hair while pouring plastic jugs of water over your head. Thank goodness we didn't have to live that way for more than a few days as I'm on the hospital electric grid.

Where I grew up? Hell fuckin' no I couldn't live without an air-conditioner. But even with one in the car and one in the house-you still have to walk from the car to inside in 110 degree f hot dirty summer.

So I moved to the coast-open a window and enjoy the sea breeze. Now a hot day is one that gets to the mid 90s, better turn on a fan or take a dip in the Pacific. Air conditioners need not apply.

Yes I could. It only gets in the low to mid 80's here. But I of course choose not to live without it.

My sympathies to your grandparents. But i must beg to differ that they 'know just how i feel'. By the time Dennis hit Florida, it was nowhere near the force of Charley.

I have been through Category 1, 2, 3, and 4 Hurricanes. Cat 4 is a quantum leap worse than a Cat 3. We actually got hit by three hurricanes last summer. One Cat2, one Cat3 and Charley. After Charley, the other two just seemed like 'pretty good storms'.

I am still suffering some PTSD, as are many of the people here. 5000 homes were destroyed in my county, and only 30% of them have been rebuilt, one year later.

Now, someone who went through Andrew or Hugo might understand.
