Lying On Job Applications

I've had a ton of trouble finding a good professional job since I left my last one. And being the suspicious and paranoid person I am, I've begun wondering if it has something to do with the fact that I've been indicating my race on the job applications. I went to a very good school, got good grades, and have lots of applicable skills for research and IT, plus I blew away the GRE. I can see no discernible hitch other than the fact that job employers might read into the fact that I check the 'black' box. So I've decided to run an experiment: starting today I'm officially white. ;)

In reality I'm biracial, and since there's never a check box for that option it's not like I'm being any less truthful by "changing" my race. Plus I've checked the 'white' box before, like for my college applications back in the day, so this isn't a momentous break with tradition. If I get an interview I guess I'll have to do some improvisation.

So anyways this brings me to my question: Has anyone lied on job applications before? And if so, was it a ridiculous little lie, a huge one, or just a distortion of the truth?

They make you indicate your race on Job applications? Weird. I've lied before, but I pretty much just bullshitted about my levels of skills. Still, I never got a job I bullshitted on an application for before anyway.

This is something I've never gotten about the US - the "race box" on all sorts of forms and applications. Why?

I always refused to check any of the race boxes because I find it unethical and stupid.

They have a postsion for "Race" on job applications in the US?
Man, that's freaky. I'd probably have to put the "Other" box, being a mangled mut of a dozen different thing from Europe, North America, and who knows where else.

Lying is wrong, unless it gets you ahead.

Yes, I have lied to get a job. There I admit it. Are you happy now? I lied about my position at a hotel that had gone out of business to get a positon as a manager at another hotel.

Well, I once put down that I was the president of the United States under employment history to see if anyone actually read it when I applied to McDonalds. Never got a call back so I couldn't tell you if they did or not.

I've lied and will lie every time they ask me if I'm going to get babies. The next time I'll take some raw onion with me and start crying when they ask that.

For those how haven't figured it out yet: Race does not mean shit. Suposably two pure bred dogs of the same breed are genetically more different than any to people.

Here, they aren't really allowed to ask you that.

They aren't here either but every single one has asked me about it.

Here you can sue them if they ask you your race or if you want to have kids in the near future.

Report them. I expect Finland has an ombudsman on sexual equality.

Yes, I agree. That's just as unfair.

True, I should. For the sake of it. Anyway. Women under 30 are doomed to work part-time anyway as no one will take the risk. A friend of mine (28, male) said he will never employ a female under 35. Try to find a proper job in a society like this one. Only huge corporations (and hospitals) are ready to hire young females.

As I understand it, in America, the race box is for recordkeeping. It is to ensure that buisinesses are complying with equal opportunity employment laws.

It'd be easier to do that by not having a race box.

Yes, without the race box (most jobs here have an Equal Ops form attached, too) they wouldn't have enough information to discriminate...

I've never lied on a job application, but I have successfully failed 200 of them; honesty may not be the best policy.

I filled out my job application and he asked me how do you drive here and I said with my 05 Bentley. Lie.. I take a cab.

B/c there's ways of finding out. I used to have to scan apps for my old job. It's amazing how many people lie on them.

I always refused to check any of the race boxes because I find it unethical and stupid. It's supposedly for statistical purposes (that's what I was told why it was on our standardized tests).
I never check it either, even though I am "caucasian".

I've never lied to get a job, but considering that the only "jobs" I've applied for were scout camp staff and a Children and Youth Center run by the Caritas.
I've purposefully withheld information on one job application, but seeing as it wasn't me that "applied" to the German army, I don't really see anything wrong with that (especially since I wanted to fail my "interview" :D )

The reason I was curious about lying to get a job is that I've heard so many people I know tell me about very calculated big lies they've told to get a job. The reason for doing so is that it's almost impossible for employers to verify (eg having been fired, drug usage, skills), and once you get hired it becomes a hassle for them to restart the hiring process if you're figured out.

So since I don't lie that much and never about anything big, I was wondering if I was getting screwed by not being opportunistic enough. Apparently not very many people lie though, so maybe it's something else.

are you not getting interviews? do they never actually see you? if you look "black" they will notice that you lied. in that case its better to leave the box blank (although if its important to the company, the guy who takes your application will just tic off the "black" box)

work up a resume and have a professional review it. include it with your applications. it will highlight your good points and make you seem more prepared for the whole process.

There was an experiment a few years ago where researchers sent identical CVs to employers applying for a job, with the one difference that some had "white" names and others "black" names. Surprise, surprise, the white names were offered interviews far more commnoly than the black names.

Khudros is actually a reptilian shapeshifter who comes from the planet Lopax V. He is of Yagnish fairy descent as well, which makes him a sodomite and an infidel. he deserves to die for this. He has also commited acts of the occultic with a toad.

Do not listen to Khudros' lies! I beseech you, do not let him inject your mind with the acid that is harvested on his homeplanet, which is called Khudros acid.
