You think you're unhappy? What about America herself? If I were a global superpower, I'd be downright depressed if NS General Forum had some threads that are interpreted as being anti-American.

I think the current US Administration has done quite a bit to gather the ire of the world today. It is only natural that people are gonna talk about it.

So long as sentiments remain debate and do not become stereotypical and rabid, I support discussion of US policy. I'm no patriot, but I don't like it when people make generalizations of Americans. Just as I don't like generalizations, period.

I am a US citizen and I see no reason with people, including US citizens being critical of the US when our government does something that deserves criticism.

At least we aren't seeing as many of the "All Americans suck" threads. These are reasoned criticisms. If you think the person is wrong, tell them so. If you think that the action is correct, tell everyone why.

Saying, "The US should live up to its trade agreements" is an opinion, based on facts, and the ensuing discussion, while occasionally puncuated by random America bashing, is NOT America bashing. See the difference? I'm sure you can. So avoid the bashing, hell, even avoid the valid threads. But don't pretend it's all mindless hating.

I do not know what page of General Eutrusca visited, but it was not the front page, unless he considers threads not about America at all inherently bashing America. After seeing him go off about liberals in a totally unrelated joke thread about Wal-mat, I wouldn't be surprised

I think the point is that any discussion/debate about something worthwhile starts out as an actual discussion and develops into name-throwing and such muck. At least, that is my observation on General threads while I've been on here.

All I meant by my previous post is that curiosity will more than likely get the better of someone, so they check out the thread, which leads to them reading it. There are some people around here that provide interesting topics and reasoned posts, but there are also people that just spew stupid things to begin with. While the saying goes "take the bad with the good," you gotta weed through the bad to get to the good.

I love being from a country where nothing is newsworthy or worth getting hyped up about... Our top news agency's big story today is that 13 million litres of cow dung somehow escaped from a lagoon in New York State and is floating toward one of our cities. And, like all Canadian stories, it's really half about the US anyway. I think it is great. It means nothing too terrible ever happens here (except for the occasional stink over heffer-poop).

You fought a big war for your independence; we asked politely after the Queen hinted that it was time we finally moved out on our own. You stampede off into the world fighting wars, we knit toques and occasionally legalise (or at least decriminalise) stuff you find scandalous. I am quite happy with that, even if the end result is that nobody really cares too much about us either way.

Unfortunately, not everyone was so quick on the draw. Notice how quickly others can succumb to nationalism and defensive tactics when it's their country being berated, though. It's not an exclusively American trait.

Eut, maybe starting a thread about how much you got depressed about anti-America threads isn't a good idea to get cheared up. A funny story thread or so would really work better, but anything that mentions not liking America criticism/bashing/looking at wrong will always degenerate (unless I start it, in which case it will flounder and die, just to spite me :p)

I've seen many threads that remained quite civil. So no, they don't all turn into name-throwing. And you can always leave a thread that has deteriorated to that point instead of crying that people are picking on you.
