100 Senators and 435 Representatives, whose agenda should they follow?

IMO, Washington and other founding fathers, and those who drafted the U.S. Constitution didn't think that the country would become so moved by politcial parties. The idea behind "The United States of America" is to have all the states unite under the federal government, and not under a political party.

I'm fairly sure they meant, when they decided upon the bicameral legislature, to have the Senators and Representatives fight for laws backed by their state, and not by their party's agenda.

Now, in 2005, people are not taking the states that Senators or Representatives represent as seriously as they take their political party. The media only shows Congressmen fighting on the side of either Democrats or Republicans, and not on the side of California, New York, Florida, Maryland, Colorado, Hawaii, etc.

Do you agree? Or did I just type more than I needed? Man I'm typing a lot more than normal tonight.

I think they damn well knew that it was going to turn into party politics...

Behind me, of course. You know that as well as I. And you're also being alot more serious tonight. O.o

Honestly, I'd prefer to see a much more liberal government in place, but..meh. I'd at least be willing to compromise.

I think they have more of an obligation to their constituents than to the party, but even moreso they have the obligation to uphold what promises they made during their campaigns. Too many politicians just BS the public in order to get to office....and while I know that's how I'll probably succeed in politics should I choose to enter that arena, I'll still say it's wrong and just be another freakin hypocrite in the American political system. Oh, wait, I forgot. They don't let liberal "radicals" in too often these days

Ergo, by my post, I do believe a multiple-choice poll could've been cooler, but I went with the next to last option anyway.

They *should* have an obligation to the *people* of the world. Yeah, not even just the people of the US, but the people of the world, because we're all humans, and we all love and suffer and hunger just the same. Unfortunately, about 96 senators and 431 representatives are loyal lapdogs to Pepsi Texaco.
