IMO, Washington and other founding fathers, and those who drafted the U.S. Constitution didn't think that the country would become so moved by politcial parties. The idea behind "The United States of America" is to have all the states unite under the federal government, and not under a political party.
I'm fairly sure they meant, when they decided upon the bicameral legislature, to have the Senators and Representatives fight for laws backed by their state, and not by their party's agenda.
Now, in 2005, people are not taking the states that Senators or Representatives represent as seriously as they take their political party. The media only shows Congressmen fighting on the side of either Democrats or Republicans, and not on the side of California, New York, Florida, Maryland, Colorado, Hawaii, etc.
Do you agree? Or did I just type more than I needed? Man I'm typing a lot more than normal tonight.
