I usually follow the posted limit while I'm in town, but on the freeways, I usually average 80 mph.

official or unofficial? ;)

Here, the speed limit was dropped a while back... if you go the speed limit that's posted now you're pretty much gonna piss everyone off.

We go 40 MPH, speed limit is 35 MPH

In town I try to follow it. On the freeway I usually go 5 to 10 MPH over.

When it's safe to do so, yes, but if every other car on the road is doing 65 in a 50 zone, you can bet I'll be doing 65.

Sometimes.

On some occasions the speed limit can be safely ignored, and on other occasions obeying the speed limit would be driving too fast....it's all about what conditions you're in.

Haha, love to see you try...I thought I would follow every rule in the book, and not get a ticket, and then you drive on the road, and discover a real driving lesson:

If you follow the rules, you will become unpredictable to the other drivers, and you will discover what that middle finger is for...

There's no better way to voluntarily donate your money to the oil cartels than by driving inefficiently. When you drive over 55, you drive with OPEC.

You do realise that is entirely untrue?

In residential areas/ in town, I tend to obey the speed limits. But on the freeway/ rural roads, I tend to go about 5-10 over.

Personally There is no speed limit unless that car with flashy lights is near it just bugs the shlikies out of me that i have to drive slower than that asshole in front of me personally i dont think ill ever be that slow guy holding up traffic.

beside i drive a car that can do a U'ie in a 2 lane road so i can fly on those turns and not flip like those damn SUVs that you all drive that keep those speed limits low and last time i check i dont care what the freaking oil "cartels" do as long as they dont rise prices i aint gonna bitch and right now im bitching!

Well if you drive a car, you're already dependant on on the Oil companies and OPEC. Plus 55 in an RX-8, that just wouldn't feel right.

No, I don't. Care to explain? you run more effiecntly at speeds higher than 55 Mph

Gear ratios.

Take my car as an example. Driving at 30mph in 1st I have far worse petrol consumption than I would driving at 60 in 5th.

Boy, did I hit a nerve. :D

To the first, dependence doesn't mean you can't keep some money out of their hands by driving efficiently. To the second, poor choice of cars if it's designed to encourage waste.

Gear ratios.

Take my car as an example. Driving at 30mph in 1st I have far worse petrol consumption than I would driving at 60 in 5th.
Comparing 30 to 60 makes little sense when we're talking about 55, that's why cars have separate measures for city and highway efficiency. 55 is the standard developed by the US gov't during the '70s oil embargo as a rule-of-thumb for those who don't know their gear ratios. Yours may be more efficient at 60 than at 55, but most passenger cars aren't.

Unless I stop checking the speedometer, I usually stay around 1 or 2 over, but if the guy behind me pisses me off, I make sure I drive exactly the speed limit. I personally think there's no reason to get mad at someone for not breaking the law. Now if they're going 25 where the limit is 40 and it's good weather, then I get mad.

I bought my '67 Bus in part because I wanted to actually have a liscence expire on me. Before that in my Chevy Malibu (Classic, not the cool one) and Porsche 914 (shut up, I liked it) I was pretty much regarding the gas pedal as a switch.

Now, no matter how hard I try I pretty much am doing the speed limit. This time I might actually make it to renew a liscense.

Then I get another sports car...

Cops and neighborhoods get me to slow down...otherwise, I go five or ten over on city streets...and when i'm out in the rural areas, I go a bit faster than that

Ha! There is not enough time in the day to waste any driving. I usually go 5-10 mph over the limit anywhere except residential areas. I don't like kids, but I don't want to run them down. On the highways, I go 80 mph usually, but at night thought I go 90 mph.

I must admit, I tend to be a bit of a leadfoot...I average anywhere from about 5 to 15 kph over the limit. I've good a good eye for speed cameras, though, I've only had a few tickets..:p

Seriously though, I try to maintain the speed limit, but something subconcious always makes me go a bit over. Dunno why...

5 or 6 over the limit. I don't like having to look for officers trying to reach their quota (sorry....I meant trying to keep everyone safe).

I have a very large problem with arbitrary numbers placed by politicians that I "need" to obey...

I'd go faster if I could, just because I know I have enough experience with the car I currently own to be able to handle higher speeds.

These days,I usually drive the spped limit, or close to it. Or just keep up with traffic. In my 20s, I rocketed every where I had to go. Now I'm never really in a hurry and have too much to lose.

Depends on a lot of factors - like traffic, road and weather conditions, for example. Of course, if there are cops around, that tends to have an effect on how fast I drive, too. ;)

Hm... In cities, only when I drive motorized vehicles. I don't have a speed-o-meter on my bike, but since I managed to overtake cars in some places, I must have been speeding.
On the Autobahn, well, you need to go at least 60 km/h, I believe, and I don't manage that with my bike (not that it would be legal for me to try).
As for keeping within the limits on it, official or unofficial? ;)
Unofficial is 130
