I have a powerful magnet stuck to my cooker any ideas about how to get it off?
Holy shit, that's cool. :p

Try using a magnet of opposite polarity to push it off. Or some substance that negates the effect of a magnet? /shrug

If you can reach the opposite side of the metal to which the magnet is attached, place the opposite pole of a magnet of similar strength against the other side of the metal. Then remove both magnets at once.

Its right on the stove and I don't have any other magnets (best I got is cheep fridge magnets)

Actually, you want to use the like pole. North repels north, south repels south.
Heat can cause a magnet to lose it's power as well, so I guess it all depends where the magnet is on your cooker (I assume that's what we yanks call a stove?)

its right on the stove so I could try cooking it but I heard some guy did it with an electric cooker and it exploded!

can you slide it? Perhaps by greasing the area around it? Maybe you can slide it off an edge.

I'm wondering, how the hell did it get stuck to your cooker in the first place?

Or pour liquid nitrogen over it for a good while, then shatter it into tiny pieces. :D

it was stuck to my phone and when I prised it off with a knife (not recommended) it flew onto the cooker
why was it on your phone?

If you dont mind scratching it slide the magnet to one of the sides rather then strait lifting

how long will it take?
Only as few thousand years...*Cough*
My opinion would be this:
Slide somethnig lubricating (like butter...you don't want to throw motor oil or a solvent on the side of your oven, heh) beside the magnet to help with moving it. Than simply slide it accross the stove and place a non-polar or weakly magnetic object at the corner, such as plastic or aluminum. Best if it was straight so you could place it parrallel to the side.
The magnet should be able to manuever all around the metallic portion of the stove it is on, if not...than you've contact-magnetized your stove and that thing ain't comin' off without acquiring a more force compared to magneticisty (f-(m*1.3) would be the minimal, I'd think).
Without having another magnet of roughly equal power, I'd say that'd be your best bet. And no water's not magnetic...that's why they use them in compasses, they're bouyant for the iron needle but don't affect it's magneticism. ;)
I thought I could scramble it :(
Why did you want to do that?

lol, true..but I decided to let someone else ask for me.
Why?
...lol, either that was sarcasm, or a sincere question. Let's go with the latter.
I love NS, and NSers, don't get me wrong. But in my time, I've heard some of the more popular of us do some really, really odd things. To the point where "why" just shouldn't be asked any more, lest you lose more respect for them. And because, so often, sheer stupidity plays a large role.

Here's an idea for you: you could hide the unsightly scratch or blemish by covering it up with something. A powerful magnet would be ideal for this purpose if you just happen to have one of those lying around.

this reminds me of a time when a freind of mine had a very strong magnet on his refrigerator. he couldn't pull or slide it off by himself, so he actually rigged a pully system up. He tried pulling on it, and it tipped over his refrigerator. The outlet was spring locked, and not well installed, so it came out too, and ripped a slit up the wall where the wireing was. It also managed to rip off all the working parts. Oh, and the magnet was still stuck.

This is what you're gonna have to do. Get about 20 feet of wire (preferrably rubber coated) and a car battery. Make about 20-30 loops in the wire and then attach the battery to each end of the wire. Make sure positive is on the left. Then place it around the magnet. Also, make sure there is nothing on the otherside of the room that can break. It's the same principle a rail gun works on.

Good to see all the money pissed away on the SDI wasn't completely wasted.
