The Island

anybody seen this movie, or like it? i saw it last night and i have to say its an absolutley brilliant and credible (compared to some) sci-fi action-adventure yarn. seriously good - so much so its quite possibly the best movie i've seen this year :)
the action, the suspence, the mystery, the sense of awe and confusion just doesn't let up in this film, helped along by some excellent acting by Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson (who got more believable as the movie went on), and a solid science-fiction plot. Plus it had Sean Bean, who i like very much, in it, as well as Ethan Phillips (Star Trek Voyager) and Steve Buscemi playing yet another intrinsically really-likeable character.

anyways, anyone else seen this? its probably old news in america (of course), but it was out in the UK only on last Thursday i believe.
if you like what you're read and want to see it.... don't watch the trailer (if you can help it) cos it gives too much away with a single line - very annoying  i went into the cinemea not knowing what the hell the film was going to be about, and hence my total elation and suprise! also, because of this, the movie kept me guessing as to what was going on and what it was all about...

so all in all, go see this if you like good sci-fi and good action :)
it might not have a wholly original plot, at least in the beginning, but as far as i'm aware the main premise is something rarely touched on (as its a relatively recent scientific development...)
i hear its got some pretty average reviews, so ignore them :P

I hadn't heard of it until you mentioned it. It's directed by Michael Bay, though, so I'm there. :)

apparently it flopped badly in america a couple of months back (due to bad marketing, so said the review i just read), which is a shame. the same could be said over here as this move managed to totally pass me by - i haven't seen one trailer on tv, one billboard ad, no ads whatsoever in fact... but the biggest screen in our local Odeon was ram-packed last night so its ok :)

I read about it in a mag and thought it sounded just like the old film "Clonus" which was also about an island where the people were "dodgy" in the same way and where two wanted off.

Turns out that the people that made "The Island" have been sued by the people who made "Clonus", so I guess I was right.

I saw it on a sneak preview over here. More than a month ago at least. It was good for Micheal Bay, silly, but good, and he manages to build some real tension even through the handwaving. It's going to sweep the most pervasive product placements award at the MTV Awards next year. Even after the post movie discussion, the people I saw it with were pretty sure we'd all missed some in trying to recall them all.

While some the story is beyond a little bit far fetched, great action sequences and performances really save it. It's got the "new hotness" which is toned down explosions, and things shattering instead of just bursting into flames. Worth the price of admission.

Wait till you guys get Stealth. That....hehe....it's a 4 star 1 star movie.
