A classic American sports car from 1953 through today. Famous for it's sleek, aggressive Stingray body styling ('63-'76, '69-'76). One of the fastest, most affordable cars you can buy. $44k will get you a 186mph, 0-60 in 4.1 sec piece of aluminum and fiberglass. Complete with world-class styling and build quality (some would argue this, but they'll have to face the facts).

The '69 ZL-1 model, of which only 3 were made, boasted a 500hp 427-cube V8 that propelled the car to 60 in 3.8 seconds and topped out at over 180mph. That's about 290km/h for your Europens. It ran the 1/4-mile in just under 11 seconds. That's completely stock, with old-style street tires (read: poor traction) and a single 4-bbl. carburetor (read: innefficient) and stock exhaust manifolds (read: restrictive). Stick on some big drag slicks, a fuel-injection system, and some long tube headers, and you have one of the fastest cars ever. Only 2 of the 3 are accounted for, and both of them are stock. One is Daytona Yellow, and the other is Can Am White. Both have removable dual-panel t-tops. The yellow one has side pipes.

Dude. (http://www.blairlee.com/cars/gr/63vette.jpg) Clearly.

Just that year, really. But I selected the '68-72 too because the convertable ones actually look like something a woman could use to masturbate with.

The Corvette, in 1957, had the highest HP-per-Cubic Inch rating in history. 283hp, 283 cubic inches. The next year it moved up to 290hp, and by 1961, it was 315hp. Of course, this is GROSS HP, but nevertheless, it is a record. For a while, it had the best HP-per-pound rating a production car, too. Don't know about that today, but the old mid '60s Grand Sport racing model could easily keep up with Ferrari's and Shelby Cobra's.

1963 Corvette Stingray Split window Coupe.

Preferably in a nice candy-apple red.

Not sure if they came stock in that color, but thats my dream car.

and for a mere 25-30 thousand dollars, I could get one.

I think the Stingray ones look the best, my dad had a 76' orange one, the last year they made them that way...

Are you talking about the car from the Stephen King movie? Because that was supposedly a 1958 Plymouth Fury sport sedan, although most of the dozen or so used were '58 Belvedere's.

My grandpa used to have a frost blue '59 Corvette.

ah dear such a typically american view on cars, the old corvettes were nice, but now its just not a decent sports car, its big, heavy, ugly and it handles like a shopping trolley with a wobbly wheel. All the sleekest and quickest sports cars come from Europe. For a car that goes ridiculously quickly for relatively cheap you need to look no further than two British makes, TVR and Noble. They are undoubtably 10000 times better than the Corvette, they look better, they go quicker in a straight line AND the noble is quicker around a track than the new Ferrari F430.

They aren't available here. And do they top out a 186mph and get to 60 in 4.1 seconds. I rest my cast. Also, appearence is a matter of tastes, although I admit the newer Corvettes have rather unispired styling. For 44k, though, they are a good balance, and they still handle better and accelerate better than 80% of the car's on America's roads. Sure, Porsche's handle better, I won't deny it, but a base model 911 Carrera costs 23k more. And sure, a Ferrari or a Lambo may be faster, but they go into six-figure range's that most people can't afford. Not everyone is a Donald Trump or a Bill Gates or a John D. Rockefeller (who at one point was worth 187.5 billion).

I will look into those 2, though. They certainly sound nice...

One thing I'd like to say, though. American roads are wide, long, and fairly straight. Hence our sports cars favoring speed and acceleration over handling. Those twisty European roads require more attention to turning and stopping than a straight highway does.

By saying a European sports car is better than an American sports car because it handles better, is kinda like saying a plasma TV is better than a microwave because it has a better picture. Lol, I gotta write that down...
