Tired of Sexism? Do something about it!

We've seen several threads accusing women of discriminating against men, which seems to be the logical evolution of the gender debate.

I'm here to provide some middle ground.

What we don't need is extreme masculism or feminism or misogyny or chauvanism, what we need is cooperation. In order to achieve a society where men and women are recognised for their differences, yet treated with equal respect we need to come together and demand it as one people. Instead of accusing one gender of oppressing or discriminating against the other we need to reach out and join forces, so we CAN address the injustices in society. We've seen that confrontation and rhetoric in this debate has all but been decried and ignored, so what's the point?

Am I making any sense or am I just flappin' my gums? Thanks!

Bolol, that was very well put.

Cooperation, collaboration, collaboration and mutual respect....these are the things a healthy society is based on.

I think that education is the key to bridging the gap. Not only when it comes to sexism, but also racism and every other form of discrimination (except for discrimination against the stupid, which will probably always exist, as well it should :) )

The more educated people are, the more likely that they will encounter people who break the stereotype, and their minds will be opened. In the case of women, the more educated women get, the better choices they will have and the less likely they will put up with the BS, the more likely they will attain positions of prestige and respect and eventually more people will accept that as the norm.

The more educated men get, the more they will realize that we are all in this together, and well, frankly, they will find that the more educated women won't have anything to do with them unless they evolve. (withholding sex is a wonderful tool for making men see the light--'be nice to women or be forced to live a lonely, celibate, masturbatory, or homosexual life')

See, if we could just stop stupid people from breeding......

*sigh* i WAS trying to make a solid argument. oh well. Nice opening post, anyway.

I don't know. While what Bolol is playing at is really what should be the goal, some people are whining about things when they really should shut up.
I'm not naming any names, but if someone has a serious problem with a women getting a lighter sentence for having had consensual sex with a minor than a man would have in a society in which women still generally earn less than men for the same work, their opinion doesn't count much in my books. And that's if you ignore the fact that women are still treated as citizens of second class in most parts of the world.

My mom sent me a page once with a list of 'Why a cucumber is better than a man'.

It was hysterical.

"the average cucumber is 9" long. the average cucumber stays hard for three weeks. A cucumber doesn't mind if you leave it at home when you go out with your girlfriends. A cucumber will hide in the closet when your mother comes over..."

so...to even out the imbalance created by sexual discrimination against women, we should sexually discriminate against men as much as possible, thereby creating new gender roles for people to fall into. right, got it.
by that reasoning, why should there be a minimum wage for men? i mean, so many of them are getting more money than women for comparable jobs that we should punish the rest by not allowing them to earn a living wage. never mind about the men who are on top of the food chain there, i'm sure they'll just learn by example.

Yes! I agree completely, I think I was saying the exact same thing in two of the other threads.

Extreme generalizations of any gender causes the debates and is caused by lack of knowledge. To eliminate the whole controversy education is necessary!

Radical feminists cause true equality seeking females to recieve little respect.
If society were to 'cut down on' those kind of feminists and have more males that support the (rational) veiws of females seeking equality then the whole situation would be much better off.

Really all that needs to be changed are a few double standard laws, then society would eventually evolve out of stereotypes and generalizations.
