I know Westvletern well and think that their brown beer is indeed the best.
For the blond, I go for Westmalle Tripple (also brewed by monks).

Problem is that now you people across the atlantic are aware via your beer site, the abbay ran out of beer. difficult to understand for Us citizens but the monks brew to live, not live to brew and make more money then needed out of it. RESPECT. They only make 4500 hectoliter and you can only buy it in the small house of the monks near the abbay were they sell it. Maximum 5 wooden "bak" of 12 bottles. Welcome to the early 19th century.

The World's Best Beer award went to Westvleteren 12, made in very limited quantities by a revered brewing community of Trappist monks in Belgium

I'm currently drinking a bottle of Anchor Porter--smooth and chocolatey and dark and oh so creamy. It's a thing of beauty.

But I'm proud of my country's beery heritage and cultural achievements! :D

Hah, but I am a winelover to. Specially the Trockenbeerenausle and Eiswein. But those luxuries are not for every week. Great wines in Germany, wow

Müller Catoir is one of my favorites.

I'm drinking Molson out of a can right now, pretty typical American style lager--the kind of thing Europeans think of when they think of American beer. Hey, it's cheap.

I pay for a can about 35€cents in the supermarket (Stella Artois for example). Is that cheap for you?Don't knwo what you mean with a cheap can over there.

Like I posted in the site: Duvel!

Duvel is my desert-island beer, provided that said island has icebergs floating by and lots of shade...you don’t want to stand in the sun after this one! Remarkably refreshing for such a strong malty brew (I quite like it served colder than cellar temperature, unlike the Trappists or other strong ales that are better suited to cellar temps), with a dense carbonation sparkle reminiscent of champagne. Lots of balanced complexity and something for every part of the palate (without trying to please everyone), even a whiff of spice that’s hard to put a finger on (clove? nutmeg? or just hops?), all conspiring to disguise the alcohol content. Looks the way God intended beer to look: a rich gold you’ll only find elsewhere in a haystack by Van Gogh, and a thick head that’s appropriately cloud-like, since your own head will be in the clouds after a couple. I wish I could rate the bottle, label, and glass, which would score perfect points for their classic simplicity. There are many fine copies, but only one Duvel!

Yum, camel's piss. Especially nasty when warm. I have some nice memories of drinking 15 bottles of generic beer in a wood and puking ALL over the place. good times.

ABOUT RATEBEER BEST

RateBeer Best was once again the world's largest beer competition -- over 30,000 different beers from over 4000 brewers in 120 different countries were eligible for awards. RateBeer's total archive includes over a half million beer ratings collected on its internet servers from tasters worldwide. An emphasis was placed on beer and brewer performance over the last 9 months for this events' judging.

Unlike other beer festival events, the judging was performed by thousands of mostly 25-35 year old beer enthusiasts from 65 countries around the world and with commercial samples - not special festival editions. Several of the world's most avid amateur beer enthusiasts participated in the contest including Per Samuelsson (Stockholm, Sweden), Josh Oakes (Vancouver, BC), Philippe Corbat (Switzerland), Jens Ungstrup (Copenhagen, Denmark), Duff Wallace (London, England) and Aaron Goldschmidt (Washington, D.C.). Each of these judges has over 3,000 documented tastings to his credit while the top taster has over 5,000. Because of their amateur status there were no minced words in the reviews -- beers were rated frankly and freely.

RateBeer congratulates all the brewers recognized for their tremendous achievements in the craft and art of brewing

Sorry, it is the best test available on internet. Feel free to post your own favorite on it. I myself know very small breweries that are in it with a a annual production of 2500 liters (only for friends), others of that volume that I drink are not mentioned.

Even a very small beer producer like the Westvleteren of the abbey is mentioned and won the contest, so take your chance ;)

Go go international currency and unit exchange. The Molson cost me US$10 for an eighteen pack of 12 fl. oz./355 mL cans. For the same price, I can get 12 bottles of Molson, each of the same volume. Compare to Red Dog at about US$6 for a 12-pack, Miller Genuine Draft at my local bar for US$1.50/355mL bottle, Sol at US$5.00 at my local "hispanic" bar, Imperial at approximately 250-300 colons (Costa Rican)/355mL bottle in San Jose, Costa Rica, circa 2001, and Tesco Brand Lager (<3% alcohol b.v.) at approximately 30p (UK)/can (approx. 1 UK pint/500mL).

I mainly drink Carlton Draught from CUB (Carlton and United breweries), the same brewery that makes Fosters Lager. Not that long ago, Carlton Draught was the only beer that most pubs here had on tap. A top beer, IMHO...

10$ is 8,03 €, that is not so way different, I would have about 3 cans of stella extra (15) if not that the can I speak of is 25ml. So price is about equal. Strange thing with Stella is that it is a luxury beer in the Uk and easaly pay 4, till 5€ on tap for 25cl in a pub there. While in its homecountry (B) or Holland, it is a regular brand at 1,5€ at tap.In France it is 2€ (Belgian beer is considerated as luxury here, altough that one is brewed to under license in France :( )

Off course they do, but it is more expensive then Smirnoff.
Forget smirnoff btw, it is not Russia neither from Polen. The old name is of that noble Russian fammily is abused for low quality Vodka. It is the JB (Wisky) of Vodka. Better economise for a better brand, does not hav eto be expensive, with 30% on top of the prize of Smirnof, you'll find decent stuff.
Perhaps at Tesco? (only remeber this when I had a girlfriend in Cambridge, while she lived in Huntingdon, birthplace of your former PM, Major)
If not Od Binns (wine group in the UK) or other wine shops have decent Vodka.Don't mix that stuff, drink it pure.
But for a cocktail, Sminoff can do off course.

I eve, also remeber a staue of Cromwell there in Huntingdon. For the rest there only is a hospital for the elderly where my girlfriend then worked.

I am not so familiar with John M., I am on the other side of the political centre :) But I follow UK politics to.

To bad for Robin Coock btw, only 59.He was a great politician and I have a lot of appreciation for his ethics (when he said goodby to Tony after the starting of the war, in that position..wow hat of)

I saw that the other day. I love that ad. hilarious!

And I've tasted pretty much every type of beer one can get in Australia. In one night, I might add, and I didn't have to pay for a SINGLE ONE. I cruised around on shouts.

The verdict: I'm not a big fan of beer.

On the same night, my mate blew $20... lol

My other mate can drink fairly insane amounts. 3/4 of a LARGE bottle of Wild Turkey. Straight. He was still standing. And still his usual self (though he did end up chucking that night...
