I'm confused about what field I'm going to in the future, and would appreciate it if people posted what they do here. Perhaps I'll be interested and your post will ultimately change my life for the better... or perhaps not...

anywhoo, I'm good at English, chemistry, music, and math, and am planning to go to university, so that's going to be a guideline for my future...

thank you for any posts.

I'm a high school English teacher. I'll never be rich (some of my family has commented that I could be making SO MUCH MORE in the private sector with an MA) but I find it a fun, rewarding job.

You need a lot of patience and to be well organized, and most of all, to love your subject.

You will realize the school day may END at 3pm, but the grading and prep work can take 3-5 hours a day additional. And when you get your holidays, (unless it's summer) you'll often have work to do, too.

It is, however, a job that gives back to society, if you're into that.

I'm not horribly fond of what I do now, but I love what I was trained to do, make film.

I don't always get to make my own films and not many people get to see what I do, but it's a blast anyway. Even working on other peoples projects is still fun and beats anything else I've done with a heavy stick (well, not everything. I was a childrens performer for a while and that, frankly, is hard to beat.)

I also write plays and work in other capacities. WAY more people have seen those and that, too, is a blast. And the people are great (even though I give actors a hard time).

Neither of these have made me so much money as even to be able to stop a regular schlub job. It's likely that that will never change. (It's also likely that I will make more than I'll ever need, but I'm not holding my breath) You have to be willing to hustle and work (oddly enough, yes) a lot harder for longer hours for less pay than you would doing just about anything else. Sucks, but you are creating something. I guess a lot of jobs can be described as creating something in some way or another, but you get what I mean...

I've chosen the 'love what you do but live in penury as a result' route in my life rather than the 'grudgingly put up with a job that does nothing for you other tan give financial reward' option.

Underpaid, underworked and too often underwhelmed live sound engineer reporting in here. You can't beat it with a big stick.

Education in my field: nothing on paper but a fair bit of experience from a lot of years working away at it. I do have an MA as well, but for some strange reason a bit of paper with a qualification in Philosophy hasn't made potential employers beat a path to my door...

I'm a high school English teacher.

Yay! for teachers (much as a I resented a good few at my school, but still 'yay! for teachers in general').

Thanks. I try to be exactly OPPOSITE of the teachers *I* hated in school. ;) You could say they have motivated me as much (or more) than the ones who inspired me, whom I loved for working me hard but making me love it. :)

Good teachers can certainly make a world of difference. My hat off to you!

When I was still working, I loved my job. I stay home with my kids now, but I used to work at a day spa doing massage therapy and treatments. I loved that whenever I finished with a client, I always got a big smile, a big thank-you and many times, an even bigger tip! :D

Seriously, it was a great feeling knowing I could take someone who was literally curled up in tension and pain, and restore them to full humanity.

;) Some days I could definitely use massage therapy when I come home....

I hear that! Hell, I could too, and I barely leave the house!

Many of the teachers I've worked on had the worst neck tension I've ever come across. Some of them had really horrible mandible tension as well...I guess from gritting their teeth? :D

It's pretty interesting what people do and how it affects their bodies. People who spend a lot of time on the computer generally have pretty hunched shoulders, and their external rotators on their right arm are usually out of whack from handling the mouse. Hardly anyone I know uses ergonomically correct chairs or positioning for that matter.

I loath and love my current job equally.

I loath it because it is boring, tedious, and has much too few available hours.
I love it because it's....well, easy. All I do is what my boss tells me to.
"Go photo copy these magazines."
"Scan these pictures."
"File these royalty reports."
Oh, and once every three months I have to print and mail out 1300 newsletters to all corners of the globe.

I'd rather be writing, but try to make a living off that and see how much bacon YOU bring home.

I love my job. I'm at college at the moment, working as a support worker- I help people who are elderly and/or with disabilities do the things they need to to live a happy life at home.

When I'm finished college I'll be a midwife. Helping to shepherd women and their families through mostly positive events is a wonderful experience.
