Talent

If you, or more relevant, someone you know has talent but they are too shy to show it, how can one convince them otherwise?

For I have two friends who enjoy writing comedy; and are very good at it(mates of mine are all in bands which I admit are shit but these two guys are good at writing). I have spoken to one of them and said that they should definitely try and get something produced for TV/Radio etc. The guy I have spoken to however says he is too shy of speaking to the other guy however in case the other guy laughs in his face.

So how do I prevent this clear talent from being wasted?

you get the three of you together and YOU bring up the subject.

Talk to the other guy.

Or just wait it out. I'm not going to say I'm talented or anything (unless you can hire me, then I'll tell you I can walk on water...) but I would kibitz with a friend all the time and any suggestion that I should do any writting on my own was laughable. Wouldn't even consider it. Finally the friend I would kibitz with about stories or funny situations just went, "I'm not doing it. If you want to do it together, great. Get crackin'" So reluctantly I wrote our first play, and...

Maybe ya just got to give it time.

Well they write and are very funny at what they do. Initially they wrote only together and then they split for practical reasons. I know that they remain good friends. They have written individually which they are funny at; but their 'solo' stuff lacks the charm of their co-operative stuff.

They are both at university and have gotten funnier (individually) since they went; I just wish they would give writing something together one try because I am sure they could succeed and because; the impression I get from the one I have spoken to, is that he would love to give it a go.
