Anyone else like Carlos Mencia?

I loooooove Carlos Mencia's new show on Comedy Central....he's freakin' hilarious! His show is smi-political, he's defiantly anti- politically correct and offends as many people as possible. God, he's hilarious.

"You screw up big tiiiime!! We went over there drop thousands bomb, come back we was like 'who da man, we da man'. But then they come over here. They don't drop a thousand bomb. They don't drop hundred bomb. They don't even drop ten bomb. They drop two bomb"

He's okay. I liked his Comedy Central Presents episode. I don't watch his new show much.

Yeah, it's pretty much a latino version of Dave chapelle.

IMO, Mencia > Chapelle. Chapelle got old, quickly.

I've always kind of thought that Chappelle had a few brilliant sketches, and a lot of crap. Mencia's best stuff so far doesn't seem as good as Dave's best stuff, but his worst stuff doesn't seem as bad, either - Carlos is CONSISTANTLY funny.

Plus, Carlos is friends with Opie and Anthony, which gives him extra points in my book.

I like how Carlos Mencia is willing to say what other people won't and make it humourous. There have been a few things he's said I disagree with, however.

TV needs people like Carlos Mencia who aren't afraid to say what it is on their mind.

Don't like him. Sometimes he's funny, but he's a bigot, a jingoist a cultural imperialist and a fierce nationalist.

Although I tried watching his show, I quit when I saw a preview for a show where it appeared he chased a homeless/poor/unemployed man around on the streets with a bullhorn demanding he get a job. Well actually that was the proverbial straw, 'cause I was gonna drop it eventually. I just won't enhance the ratings of someone like that.

Plus his show wasn't really that funny anyways. Race jokes and insulting foreigners only goes so far.

Uhh....he's not a bigot at all...he offends everyone, not just foreigners, nd most of the time, he's kidding. Loving one's country is not a crime, nor is it a reason to dislike someone.

And, honestly (even though that scene was dramatisized), why shouldn't the homeless guy get a job?

One reason I don't watch Mencia's show is too many racial jokes gets annoying. I believe that is why I didn't watch Chapelle's show.

Aww, it was just a little sliver of a segment he did on getting random people (People who were walking around the streets, shopping, etc.) who admitted that they were unemployed and he got on their case.

Heheheh, he made this white guy who was in his 20's, clean shaven and everything, sell oranges on the street.

And, honestly (even though that scene was dramatisized), why shouldn't the homeless guy get a job?

I don't mean racially. He's a bigot when it comes to american vs. the rest of the world. He is also bigoted when he talks about people he considers stupid. He's actually a dumb fuck for calling a pager, Nintendo 64(good times good times) and a fax machine outdated, useless technology.

And I do consider extreme nationalists to be distasteful individuals that I choose not to associate myself with. I'm not talking about just appreciating the good in your country, but the people who will stand up, perhaps on a stage, claiming that America is the best nation on earth, who think that the world needs *more* McCulture, and who say that we shouldn't feel sorry for people in other countries, because after all they can come here!

Even if the homeless scene was dramatised, that was still a straw for me, because of the message.

On Homelessness - I'd invite you to tatter your clothes, sleep on a bench for a few weeks without a bath or personal hygenie products, then go try and find a job. And it would be easier for you than the majority of homeless, because you wouldn't have an addiction or mental disease(a majority suffer from one or both conditions). You'll understand why shouting at homeless people to get a job isn't helping, because no one will hire the guy with sticks in his hair who smells like dog feces, who doesn't own a car or residence, and who may have a mental disturbance, period.

Though if he *could* get a job, he should, of course.

I hate to fulfil Godwin's law but....

Hitler - If you don't like me, why are you showing interest in me by bothering to undermine what I do?

FDR, Stalin, Churchill, De Gaulle - Damn... our bad. Carry on, carry on.

I know it's a bad, bad example and has little to do with Mencia, but the idea that we should just put our fingers in our ears and go na na na na na when something comes up that we object to/don't like, is just silly. If we feel strongly about something/someone, chances are there's a reason, and it's good to air reasonable concerns, especially in a thread specifically on the subject.

Once again don't bother posting that I used a horrible example. I know and am admitting that. I'm talking about his arguement that his mock response by Carlos is true for anything.

Unfortunately I've brought undue seriousness to a thread that was never intended to be very serious. I'm tired anyway, so I'll bow out. I've said my peace anyways, so carry on, carry on.

He's actually a dumb fuck for calling a pager, Nintendo 64(good times good times) and a fax machine outdated, useless technology.

The pager is a pointless waste of money and technology, when you have a cel phone with voice-mail and text messaging which can do exactly the same thing, and far more, for nearly the same cost.

The fax machine IS nearly outdated - you can send documents online and print them to hardcopy just as easily as you can fax. The only reason ANYONE still faxes is because many businesses are too cheap, too lazy, or too set in their ways to upgrade.

The N64 IS outdated technology - they haven't made a new game for it in years, there weren't that many good games on it in the first place, and most of the good games that WERE on it can be acquired either online in ROM format, or when the Revolution is released, with it's ROM-emulating mode.

In this case, I'd hardly say he's a "dumb fuck" for suggesting what is true.

In his various specials and stand-ups, he suggested that America has the most powerful military in the world - which is true. He suggested that America has the most powerful economy in the world - which is also true (even if the EU is serious competition now, and the US dollar has grown weaker as of late). And he's suggested that a large number of people immigrate to the US (either legally or illegally) each year, to escape miserable conditions in their home countries, or to try and achieve a better life - which is also true.

At no point that I am aware of has he ever suggested we should basically turn Europe, Asia, and Africa into "America East", nor has he ever suggested that everyone who isn't American is vastly inferior. If anything, he tends to praise America while NOT denigrating the rest of the world - keeping in mind that NOT expressly praising all the good things about other countries is not the same as insulting them... that's the sort of BS philosophy that led to political-correctness in the first place (we have to praise everyone equally, because otherwise, someone will have their feelings hurt!).

Even if the homeless scene was dramatised, that was still a straw for me, because of the message.

I'll assume you didn't watch the show, and judged entirely from the commercial. The majority of people he talked to WEREN'T NYC homeless people, sleeping on benches and mumbling to themselves about how the CIA put transmitters into their head to monitor their thoughts. These were the sorts of people who, while fully capable of getting jobs, CHOOSE not to. The sort of person who abuses the loopholes in the welfare system to collect government money that they DON'T NEED.

If I remember correctly, the very person he was shouting at through the bullhorn, when asked why he didn't have a job, just sort of shrugged and mumbled that there really weren't any jobs out there - which is bullshit. It would be more honest to say there aren't any jobs that he was willing to lower himself enough to DO. And one of the other people he spoke to basically said he just didn't feel like working. THAT is not the sort of homeless that deserve pity - that's the sort of unemployed that deserve the EXACT amount of scorn that they received.
