ENDORSING THE PORK or Bush Spends More $$$

Today in Illinois, President George W. Bush will sign the recently passed highway bill. The $286.4 billion transportation legislation is so overloaded with pork that it contains 6,371 pet projects for all 535 members of Congress. How nice. Aren't you so glad that our politicians are confiscating your personal wealth to buy votes from people in their districts? So what else is new.
One of the more outrageous examples is funding for a bridge in Alaska, secured by Republican Representative Don Young. $231 million will go for a bridge near Anchorage to be called...yup...you guessed it..."Don Young's Way." Another outrage is this one: $2.3 million for landscaping along the Ronald Reagan Freeway in California. If that doesn't keep The Gipper spinning in his grave for awhile, nothing will.
At any rate, this bill shows more than any other that the Republican Party has long abandoned its quest for limited government. Aside from national security issues and a few other things, we have reached a point where there is no difference between a Republican and a Democrat.

You've only just noticed this?
The Republicans never stood for limited government, and there are few differences with the Democrats on national security. Support for the PATRIOT Act was unanimous in both parties.
Aside from national security issues and a few other things, we have reached a point where there is no difference between a Republican and a Democrat.Sheesh, that point was reached a long time ago.

Young's friggin nickname is "The King of Pork!" For real, although the following isn't:
Not to mention he's a member of the House Committee on extremely outdated facial hair (thank u Jon Stewart! :D)

Not hardly. I've objected to wasteful government spending ever since I first started paying taxes. This is just another sad chapter in the decline of U.S. government. Using my property to buy votes is one of the worst scams perpetuated on this country.

Byrd, from West Virginia must be a close second in the pork contest. Every darned thing in that state is named after him.

Speaking of property and scams, Kelo v. New London sure ranks right up there, doesn't it?

It is bad, but not the result of vote-buying. Social Security is another scam that needs to be stopped. Unfortunately, it will die a natural death and cost us another bundle of money in the process.
In fact, entitlement programs are nothing more than schemes to buy votes that are dressed up to look like aid to 'unfortunates'. The folks that get the money become serfs to the government and keep electing the same crooks that keep giving them the 'aid'.
