Yet another entry in the sporadic series. Howard Dean gets the honor of comparison to the past greats of the Democratic party. Back when the party had leaders and principles, that is.

"One man with courage makes a majority."--Andrew Jackson

"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."--Franklin Roosevelt

"The buck stops here."--Harry Truman

"Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country."--John Kennedy

"What the propagandists on the right have done is make people afraid to say they are Democrats. We have to be out there. We have to be vocal. We have to be pushing our version of the facts because their version of the facts is very unfactual."--Howard Dean

If I had been elected president in 1948, history would be vastly different. I believe we would have stemmed the growth of Big Government, which had begun with the New Deal and culminated with the Great Society.

I don't see how his name can be associated with greatness.

I don't see how his name can be associated with greatness.

I don't see how he is from the Democratic party. He's as opposite as they come.

Mr. Thurmond was a Democrat until 1963 or 1964.

I personally like the idea of scrubbing the New Deal. Also, the man did a 24+ hour filibuster. If that's not being a great orator, I don't know what is.

Being a great orator doesn't mean you have to LIKE him. Hitler, Huey Long and Mussolini were also all great orators.

True, but the Democratic Party then did not value the concerns that most do today.

Good point, a 24 hour filibuster is pretty cool.

"America did not invent human rights. In a very real sense, it is the other way around. Human rights invented America." -Jimmy Carter

"If you fear making anyone mad, then you ultimately probe for the lowest common denominator of human achievement." -Jimmy Carter

(Irony! I wonder if Bush took this as a tenet?? :) )
