I have a Toshiba Sat Pro A30, with Windows XP.
After switching on the laptop, I reach the Log on page as usual, but when I log on to an account it logs off again straight away.
It's the same for all accounts on the computer, the password is typed in, it logs on, it logs off straight after.
Can anyone advise what the problem is/solution is?
Thank you!

Yes, it boots into safe mode.
But when you boot it up normally, it gets to the logon screen and shuts down completely, or re-boots?

No, it gets to the log on screen.
As usual I type my password, and it says it is logging on and for a split second it does, before logging straight off again.
Back to the Log on screen.
From safe mode, disable one by one anything that autostarts and see if that helps (the "msconfig" programme is helpful in doing this).

Doesn't seem to be working ...
Reading up on threads on other forums for people with the same problems I came across this :

Do you think it could help?

Did this happen after you ran adaware? Can you find the pertinent key in the registry and indeed see that it is the incorrect one? If it is, then this will probably help.

My question is...does it(the laptop) feel hot, or hotter than usual?

I decided to check my Internet Security (Norton Internet Security 2004), and found there was an Error with automatic email protection.
Do you think it could have come by email?

Nope, it doesn't. Although it has had a history of overheating in the past.

Damn .. I checked the registry and it has C:\Windows\System32\userinit.exe,
So that link won't help me ..

Maybe it's dusty. Open it up and wipe off the motherboard with a damp towel. :)

Thanks LG, I can always rely on you :p
It's not overheating .. it's just logging on and then off. It doesn't switch off or anything.

Well, Im nearly a+ certified, and to me, it sounds like one of the windows boot files, INI, SYS, etc....arent being loaded, wich is why you cant lof on to any of your accounts, but you CAN boot up in safe mode.
If you have a windows boot disk, try to boot it up, and repairing windows, but DONT partition your drives, and DONT tell it to re-install windows, although, you may need to do this anyway, if such a file is corrupted.
How much stuff on your drives is irreplacable?

It will not go into Safe mode anymore .. I guess I'm kinda fucked.
I'll get in touch with the manufacture.
Thanks for all your help.

Ok. now its sounding like a hard-ware issue.
If you live in the States, I reccomend taking it to your local Best-Buy "Geek Squad".
They do good work, and if your like me, can pay them to run diagnostics on it, and then you can fix it yourself.
Saves me a lot of time, and money sometimes.
Good luck.

c:\windows\system32\userinit.exe is a legit Windows file (about 22K).
Sounds like the hard drive is faulty.
My money's on it being a virus.
