I've got a copy of the program HijackThis, as you can guess. At the end of the scan, I saved a log file. I know there are a few websites out there that read them automatically, and advise you on what to do. Does anyone have a link? Thank you.

Yes, there are. I remember going on to one, but I lost the URL.
Memorizing the processes is good, but I'm forgetful. So this helps.
I don't memorize my processes but some entries are just suspisciousl looking, its also a good idea if you have another computer available with more or less the same programs to compare the Hijackthis logs from each one and delete what doesn't match up.

Ever try ProcessGuard by Diamondcs.com.au?
Only processes you approve can run, will even stop rootkits. Really slick. Have used a few years and I swear by it. No adware, virii, trojans.

Same here, I just identify the information as bad or good based upon my own knowledge of my system:

Same … I find the online analyzers a whole lot less accurate and usually not well maintained I am usually by far more “up to date” on things and also have a tendency to be able to “feel” what should not be there

Another one here -- I know what's supposed to be on my computer and what randomly popped up. Of course, I usually check the Add/Remove programs list in the Control Panel first, and then run both Ad-Aware and Spybot. Spybot comes with TeaTimer, which monitors changes in registry keys and the like, so you pretty much know what's going on with your system.
