I didn't have dress codes when i was in school, but then there didn't seem to be a need for it either.

Let them go nude if they wish, I say.

"Dress codes", especially in PUBLIC schools, are outrageous.

I don't know about that...I sure as hell wouldn't want to sit in a seat recently occupied by a naked person for 45 minutes.

Those germs transfer to their pants, you know. There's little difference.

Yeah, I think we have laws about public nudity

True, but there's a psychological difference. Plus, with all of the naked girls (or guys), there's a chance that there would be a considerable amount of jacking off, and sperm all over.

Well, I think there just might be restrictions for that...

Hahaha!

Speaking as an official panty inspector at a number of Catholic Girls schools, I think dress codes are both necessary and hot.

I don't know, because public nudity eliminates indecent exposure as a crime...it's a wild card.

True, but once people are actually used to seeing naked people, wouldn't that negate said wildcard (except for pervs... of course, we have pervs anyway)?

One of the problems with school dress codes is that it tends to be pretty much left up to teachers to enforce them, and most teachers I have met either (a) couldn't care less what their students are wearing so long as they behave in class, or (b) are completely baffled by dress code rules, especially those applying to the opposite gender.

At my high school, most of the male teachers just admonished everyone to tuck in their shirts, because that was a nice simple rule they could understand. One teacher told us how he'd basically decided never to try to enforce any of the rules for girls, since every time he did so they either explained very patiently that what they were wearing was a crop top, not a tank top (or something similarly meaningless to him) and so the rules didn't apply, or, even more ridiculously, got annoyed and shocked that male teachers were looking at them closely enough to notice really obscure things like the fact that they were wearing a tank top. So he just stuck to "tuck in your shirt" and wished the school would get rid of the dress code so he could stop worrying about it.

Honestly, I wish one could just apply some sort of common-sense dress code (e.g. "don't come to school looking like a child prostitute/gigolo") and have people obey it, but that'll never happen. People being people, I think most dress codes are a waste of time.

With teenagers, I don't think so. Personally, I think that's why clothing was developed in the first place. :p

LOL!

Well, everyone I've known wouldn't do *that* in front of other people, thus the perv factor.

That would qualify as disruptive behavior and certainly be punishable by something unpleasant **this post interrupted by the fact that my dog decided to lick the hell out of my face** and I too oppose letting schoolchildren go nude (though our attitude toward nudity is extremely prudish and it's no wonder Americans get so excited about a little bare skin when we act like it's a horrible crime aagainst humanity.) However, as far as dress codes, I say just don't show any good parts, don't dress like a whore or a total slob (that goes for girls AND guys...I don't really care what underwear a guy wears and don't feel the need to see half of it) and that's about it. Uniforms are overkill and an excuse for schools to gouge their students.

Let's just have uniforms so the never-ending debate over modesty can end.

I've never have any dress codes in school and I don't think they are really necessary. Of course, there's this psychologic aspect that uniforms prevent teasing cause some wear only labels while others don't have the money or whatever. But kids are mean, they always find reasons to tease you.

And I would go insane if I could only wear certain clothing.

Yes, we should. Having a necked person walking down the street infringes on my Constitutional right to happiness. People can always be naked in their own home, if they so desire.

Well, not having "necked" people walking down the street (especially the beautiful women) infringes on my same right. :D

I think the right not to see others' genetalia far outweighs ones right to see women. If you want to see naked women, do so in your own home. That's why the internet was invented. BTW, whereabouts in St. Louis do you live?

If my school had uniforms, I doubt I'd oppose it. It'd cut the whole "I wear better close than you" bullshit, there'd be less fighting amongst students. Students can 'express their personality' on their own time. School is for learning and study, not a showcase of how rish your parents are. My school has a pretty lax dress code, and a lot of the girls take full advantage of it.

Maybe every one should think of it this way. Many of us are thinking "no dress code, let them go nude" then think: if it applies to someone, it applies to everyone, now imagine the ugliest person you know, in school nude, as they accidentally brush up against you, or sit in the seat you were in, or anything like that.... a bit digusting no? So, in that sense, have it so long as doesnt show what we do/dont want to see. The Groin, Anus, and female breasts. Basically, let it show anything legal. And for us straight guys sake, as we are not accostomed to seeing guys in bikinis etc. (personally i dont WANT to become accostomed to it) as anyone is accostomed to seeing women in bikinis etc. make it so the entire groin is covered, from the insde of the leg to the inside of the other leg, and say, 2 inches or so below the naval. That sounds about fair.
Wow this is f'in long.... :(

I would appose uniforms simply because, it is pure restriction of who people are. If it is how wealthy they are, thats kinda sad, but so be it. All the fighting and arguments or whatever happens is going to happen independent of what rules are applied. Up till the point where school = complete isolation/confinement. Its probably healthy for that matter to fight or argue a bit. Long as it is induced by both parties or what not. But i do agree, i dont want to see the obeise kids genitalia. It would, ruin my day. Every day. :(

Uniform is okay, probably because our school has nice uniform.. Kinda.

For the last two years you get to wear casual though. And the roll is 'let the bottom of your top touch the top of your bottoms.' The teachers apparently think that that's quite witty or something.

Also no bear shoulders, but the teachers relax the rules more and more as time passes on.

Personally, I think that schools are primarily there for learning and that student shouldn’t wear anything disruptive.

My school has an extremely strict policy.
We have all the things mentioned in that article, and we are not allowed to have any non-school affiliated graphics on our clothing. We also have to wear our school IDs around our necks. All of this is strictly enforced, in school suspension for even the slightest breach.
And all at a public school!

My libertarian senses are tingling…
