(Might have spelled the name wrong). I think the title is self-explanitory.

Wait till he's been retired five years and then elect him to the Hall of Fame? What else are you going to do to the guy? He's earned his spot, whether he was roided up or not.

He's the first big-name baseball player to be suspended under the new steroids policy. He's a future Hall-of-Famer, as long as the Baseball writers aren't hypocrites, and just collected his 3,000th hit and has over 500 homers for his career.

He was roided up, his test came out positive. Whether or not he took the steroids intentionally is another matter, but I'm willing to bet he did. I'm not saying thathe doesn't deserve the spot, I just question his character a bit more now. I've always thought that Palmeiro was a class act, and now that he's lying about steroids...I dunno...

I didn't mean to imply that he wasn't roided up--I meant that whether he was or not, he deserves his spot in the Hall. All this faux-outrage about people using steroids to get an advantage just bugs me--cheating has been an inherent part of professional sports for as long as there's been money to be made. We didn't keep Gaylord Perry out of the Hall, and he made his rep on the spitball. We didn't keep Phil Niekro out, and he got busted with sandpaper in his pants. We've never really talked about all the amphetamine abuse that's been going on since the 70s at least--guys taking greenies in order to improve their games. All steroids are is the next step, technologically speaking.

Don't get me wrong--I'd never roid up myself, but I'm 5'10", 235 lbs, run the 40 in about three weeks and couldn't hit a hanging curve to save my life. Steroids wouldn't help me in the slightest. :D

It's not just sandpaper in his pants, though. Its a drug offence. Guys have been banned for drug offenses before... remember Steve Howe? But its not so much that for me. It's that I think anyone who is so fucking stupid to continue taking hardcore steroids when they're continually upgrading the testing process, can retroactively test old samples for new types of drugs, and are upping the penalties more and more deserves what they get. They gave out all the warnings in the world. Congress is involved, for christs sake (not that I think they should be). Shouldn't that have been a strong enough hint?

On a related topic, why do you think Barry Bonds isn't coming back? And as a Phillies fan I've watched Jim Thome fall off a cliff lately too... over the next year or so we'll see who the offenders are whether they fail drug tests or not.

Which is really fucking stupid. The man earned his place, regardless of what he did. As for Palmiero, is anyone really surprised? Fuck, well over half the league probably dopes at this point.

if you cheated in order to earn your place, you didnt really earn it. If hes been using steroids then he has been cheating. He didnt earn his place and shouldnt be in the hall of fame or in the sport. Cheating should not be tolerated, specially when its not just against the rules but against the law.

Cheating's cheating as far as I'm concerned, and I don't see a difference between scuffing a baseball to get more break on it and injecting one's self with steroids--if we're going to celebrate one, we ought not be hypocritical about the other.

As to Bonds, I think he's got legit problems with that knee, and yeah, they're probably related to his previous steroid use--steroids often help speed the healing process and if he's off them right now, then he's taking about as long as your average 40+ year old needs to get back. Besides, it's not like the Giants are in the race or anything. They could wind up losing 90+ games this season.
