Silk is fantabulous to say the least. Just give me a piece of it and i'll be able to amuse myself for hours just rubbing it between my fingers :)

What s(he) said, though I'd never dare to put it on a bed, since it's difficult to clean, if I remember right.

It feels really nice on your skin - i had a silk shirt once (I was in love with Alanis Morrisette at the time and she was wearing them) but I'm afraid that as a ecologically concious consumer now I would have to query whether the mulberry bushes (that's the stuff the caterpillar eats isn't it?) were grown organically, and what are the hidden social and environmental costs of buying silk A over silk B.

It gives me a headache just thinking about it so I'm gonna opt out of... oh wait where were we again, silk feels nice mmmm.

Precisely why I'll never, ever own any. But if I ever get rich and go to a hotel that offers silk robes and beds..Heh.I'll just lounge about in them alllllll day.

I can guarantee that the food you eat are not grown 100% organically. Will you stop eating?

But the fact that the caterpillars are boiled alive to get the silk off them doesn't worry you?

To answer the question from my 42 year old male perspective, it depends on who is wearing it.

I have a pair of silk boxers. I tend to wear them under a tux. The lighter material keeps ya cool easier.

Now you see! Further information to put me off silk (and I was thinking of it in terms of transport - no doubt transporting the stuff to western nations makes a ton of CO2).

Dragon's Bay:
Really I go for locally grown and produce where I can, of course the market isn't 100% organic, but it doesn't stop me trying. Anyways back to silk.

Silk is really an 80's thing here in Ireland as regards women, and is not even thought of with men aside from a few silk shirts, but most people see those as gauche.

Silk fabrics should be an important part of any man's wardrobe. Every man should have: at least one nice pair of silk boxers, a silk shirt, and a silk tie. Furthermore, most men should have worn either semi-formal or full evening dress (aka a tuxedo) at least once (note, that's men, not boys) requiring some silk (silk facings or lapels on the jaccket, silk braid on the trousers, tie, hat, and other bits). Finally, silk sheets are very comfy but I'm not washing them...

Silk fabrics should be an important part of any man's wardrobe. ..snip..

Um why?
Why the prerequisite of what people should wear?
Rain2

Ashmoria
08-08-2005, 19:28
the only important question about silk is "how do you feel when wearing it?"

if it makes you feel feminine and sexy then your man will like it. if it does nothing for you, it will do nothing for him

ive never had a problem washing silk. handwashing is fine. i sometimes even just toss it in the washer with the rest of my clothing.

and no i never weep over boiled silkworms.

Why is everyone so hyped up on silk, I mean sure its nice and everything, but it doesn't deserve an entire thread. And Rain2, why do you want to know so desperatly?
Daistallia 2104
09-08-2005, 05:55
Um why?

Silk Boxers - same reason every woman should own a set of nice lingerie.
Silk shirt - looks sharp, but is not formal wear.
Silk tie - guys must wear ties on numerous occassions, and should have at least one good one.

Why the prerequisite of what people should wear?

Sorry, but that question makes no sense. (A prererquisite is a requirement as a prior condition, as in "Algebra is a prerequisite for trigonometry.")

I like silk, and satin too, but only on a woman so I can feel it against her flesh. There's nothing in the world like a woman's body beneath slik or satin! SIGH! :D

I like silk, but I do feel rather sorry for the silkworms. They do have to be bred and killed to live, though... the poor things can't survive in the wild any more. Someone ought to devise a way to remove the silk and repackage the pupa without killing it.

Every man should have... a silk tie.

Maybe I should learn how to put the blasted things on first?

and no i never weep over boiled silkworms.

Well, I just spent 80 minutes rescuing tiny snails from my aquarium's algae, so I could throw away the algae. I also pick up and move insects on pedestrian walkways, and throw earthworms onto the grass during rainstorms.

But... unwanted stray pets in the pound? Shoot 'em.
