Duel

I just watched a movie called Duel about this guy that was chased by a truck along this deserted highway in rural America. Anyway I was wondering what you would do if you were in a situation where you were running, no, sorry driving for you life, with no one to turn to, a deadly lorry about 100 yards behind you and limited fuel. I don't know what I would do.

Ah, how the mighty Spielberg has fallen...

Personally I think I'd get out of the car and leave it on the edge of a cliff.

Is that the one where the truck goes plummeting off the cliff at the end?

With the truck a hundred yards behind you? Although he did something like that, he just dived out of the car at the last minute though.

Ah, one of my favourite movies of all time.

I love the final touch of genius at the end - the prey sitting vigil over the fallen predator, some primal instinct forcing it to stay and celebrate, relish its assailant's demise.

Alas, all his other movies were bullshit.

Be fair, Jurassic Park was OK (not a patch on the book mark you).

Oh, I only saw the last 20 minutes or so. Why was that truck chasing him anyway?

Well, he did try to get help from that old couple in the ancient car. So there are other motorists.

I really have no idea, I don't remember the start.

Yeah but last time that old couple tried to help they got run down by the truck, so he's gonna have to find a fresh set of motorists. I think I'd be staring over the cliff, too after all that just to make sure the truck didn't reform and come after me (I mean, it is pretty freaky)

Anyone see the cult knock off (I honestly don't know which came first, but Duel is better by far) The Car? I bought my nephew a toy of The Car but no one including my brother knew what I was talking about. Essentially an evil looking black Lincoln starts terrorizing a town. For no reason. And, as it turns out it's a town without spike strips or the ability to make some.

If it happened to me I'd be crushed by the truck because I drive a '67 VW Bus. Not getting away. In my previous car it wouldn't be an issue. Also, having already been through what he had I would have raced the train crossing in the hopes that the truck would get caught up by a long train.

But really, Speilberg did a good job of having that guy try everything he could and be foiled by circumstance or the truck. Part of what makes it such a good classic and hints at why Jaws was going to be so good.

Actually, it was one of his first -- probably 15 years ago or more -- and a TV movie if I recall correctly.

That is entirely my point. He made a few good films and then went downhill.

They're not Shakespeare, but I liked Raiders of the Lost Ark well enough...
And Jaws is a classic.
The first Jurassic Park movie was exciting.

I am glad, though, that he did NOT get to do Harry Potter. Jeez, what was he thinking -- wanting American kids to play the principals when very clearly the book is set in the UK....

I would do one of two things.
Thing one:
1. I would activate my rear facing 40mm gun turrent and unload.
2. repeat until lorry is no longer a problem

thing two:
1. put vehicle into 4wd
2. leave road letting lorry just try and catch me then.

as you can see I take a fairly militant stance on driving. if you decided (for any reason) too kill me in my vehicle, you would first have to face my arsenal of small and large firearms (not the least of which is a 40mm cannon turret)
