What magazines do you read?

Oxwana

I love magazines. Like, any magazines. Some, I need to read, and some I read if I come accross them, but I always enjoy it.
My personal favourites are
Jane (http://www.janemag.com/2001/),
The Walrus (http://www.walrusmagazine.com/),
Utne (http://www.utne.com/),
"O" (http://www.oprah.com/omagazine/omag_landing.jhtml),
British Cosmo (http://www.cosmopolitan.co.uk/),
French (http://www.vogueparis.com/) and
Spanish (http://www.vogue.es/) Vogue and
Adbusters (http://www.adbusters.org/home/).
These are the only magazines I would pay for. Most of them are read at least occasionally by some member of my immediate family or another, so I don't usually have to pay. All the other magazines I read are from the library, or borrowed from a friend; while I enjoy reading Seventeen, it takes me an hour, max, to get through it. Hell if I'm gon pay for that, eh?
What are your personal favourites? Anything that you think I should be reading?

I'm a commie, so I'd feel bad paying for it. It's bad enough that I like to read it so much.

I have a subscription to Läkartidningen (Journal of the Swedish Medical Association) (http://www.lakartidningen.se). It comes once a week and I usually only have time to skim through it, unfortunately, so I don't buy any other magazines, since it would end up being the same with them...

Anyway, it had a very interesting article about the use of a lactate dehydrogenase iso-enzyme in uteral aspirates as a potential marker for endometrial cancer. OK, so it's not that interesting for laypeople, but it's a good magazine otherwise.

I know what you mean. I had a copy of the Journal of Guidance, Control, and Dynamics sitting in the living room. My wife picked up the thing and started looking at the papers that were published in that issue. She dropped it back on the table and asked my why I read 'such boring stuff'.

I don't regularly read any magazines. I'm a news junkie and I get my "fix" from the daily news program on the German public channel ARD :D.
I am currently reading Der Stern (http://www.stern.de/), though, because it has a series about how sex and love are being practised all around the world. I read PM (http://www.pm-magazin.de/de/) and Spiegel (http://www.spiegel.de) too, but usually only when they have topics that interest me or when I'm at the doctor's. There's usually a bunch of magazines lying around...

Magazines aren't about news, thats what newspapers are for. Magazines are for the articles, the commentary, the investigative reports, the analysis, and in some cases the photography or artwork.

You're right, of course. I still don't think my wife knows exactly what I do at work. I'm not sure my boss understands more a little either, but he's happy enough with it that he keeps signing the paychecks. He's entitled to ask the stupid questions, though.

3. World Sculpture News
4. Sound On Sound
5. Future Music
6. New American Paintings
7. McSweeney's
8. Hobby Japan

I stopped reading books awhile ago and my magazine consumption tripled. I can only afford McSweeney's now and again, and New American paintings is steeply priced too, but it's bi-monthly. The visual arts and especially the music magazines I use for reference, so I'm willing to pay for them.

I have a subscription to all these:

Automobile
Road & Track
Car and Driver

Businessweek

Newsweek
Reader's Digest
Popular Science
Chainik Hocker
07-08-2005, 19:51
Atlantic Monthly (great, great articles but I'd buy it if they printed roast-monkey recipes in Esperanto, as long as they also keep printing new P.J. O'Rourke articles)
PC Gamer
Computer Gaming World
Time
Newsweek
The Week
Soldier of Fortune (but less and less now that they've bone insane and I've reached that level of maturity that makes me less likely to drool over pics of guns... at least not at the newsstand)
Popular Mechanics
Popular Science
Wired
The Economist

And of course the trade mags, Security Systems Integrator, Locksmith Ledger, CSO, Emergency Management, Sixty Five Pages of Glossy Photographs Bookended by What Appear to be Unbiased Articles and Reviews but are Actually Thinly Disguised Advertisements.... there seems to be new trade mags every month, and as all these people have my business address I can't figure out how to stop them sending it all to me. My mail carrier hates me.

Oh, well, at least we have new mags to spread out in the company lounge every month.

Plus, some of us actually enjoy reading a real magazine (or newspaper). Current technology also is incappable of making an online source that is as portable, cheap, and convenient as a magazine.

I don't read magazines as much as I did when I had free access (go figure)-but when I did I read:

Road & Track Particularly Peter Egan's Side Glances
Car and Driver I like thier 'silly' road test or comaparison that's in almost every issue, like when they did a side by side comparison of the Dodge Intreped and the USS Intreped.
Motorsport
Classic and Sports Car
Autosport
Cause I like sports cars more than I like muscle cars. And the history is pretty cool.
The Onion Still read that, it's a given. But mostly on-line these days...
I used to read Ad Busters until it degenerated into whining graphic artists instead of commentary.
Filmmaker
American Cinematographer
etc
I have to work...

That's all that comes to mind. Though with free access there where things like Toyfare in there for Twisted Mango Theater...
