The British sub cut the Russians free. All seven survive and are in the hospital.

It is good that there is no loss of life, but it shows that one should never join the Russian Navy. The rescue comes at the start of annual celebrations to honor the Russian navy, aptly called Navy Day. Last year Navy Day featured a misplaced firecracker crashing into an ammunition magazine in Vladivostok, which detonated the entire stock.

Ah, the multi-posts are back. :)

One of these times, night will be turned into day and we will find out that one of the Kirov-class battlecruisers has spontaneously exploded. :p

Its good to know that the Russians have learnt from the pideful mistake they made with the Kursk where they reufsed British help untill it was too late, and also the technical mistake of the Kursk when they redisigned their torpedos.

I agree with you about Russian pride now taking a back seat to necessity. I believe there must be a few ignorant "right wing" russian militants who still oppose the help. Interesting on that score that President Putin made his defense minister personally responsible for solving this crisis.
They are the same fools who wanted to start shooting when faced with a lack of observation satellites in the early 1990's. They had exactly 2 satellites left (not enough to cover Russia's vast area) one was failing and their equivalent of NORAAD was on the streets out of work.

I don't know what to think about the Russians of 2005. With the responsible attitude prevailing, maybe it'll do to put up with Russian boy-scout equivalents being indoctrinated in nationalist ideology. Interesting, they have a canadian website claiming all sorts of depravity in the Ukraine.
