They are the Ashes of English Cricket. It died when the Australians won a series against them a long time ago, and now they play for the Ashes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ashes).

Australia!

The second test was one of the best games of cricket I have ever watched.

Well, it certainly was a nail-biting finish last night.(Aus Time)
I personally had written off Australia at the start of their second innings, but the tail-enders made quite a stand.
Go Australia! :D

argh dammit, you (thomish empire) asked in your first post 'who will win the ashes?', but in the poll you asked 'who do you want to win the ashes?', which lead to me inadvertantly voting for australia. i know theyll win, but i definitely dont want them to.

England. I usually don't care too much for cricket, but it would be very satisfying for the infinitely arrogant Aussie fans who talk as if they are unbeatable and predicted 5-0 against England to be brought down a peg or two.

England 407 and 181 (Flintoff 73) beat Australia 308 and 279 (Warne 42, Lee 43*) by two runs

Holy shit, what a test match.

I was flicking between the end of it, and watching NZ do shit against Zimbabwe. I woke up to find that Vettori had smacked 127 off 98 balls and McCullum 111 off 112 to take NZ to 452/9 after day one. Not a bad score in one day..

FoW: 1-21 (Vincent, 7.2 ov), 2-24 (JAH Marshall, 7.4 ov),
3-63 (HJH Marshall, 15.4 ov), 4-104 (Astle, 28.6 ov),
5-113 (Styris, 32.1 ov), 6-233 (Fleming, 54.1 ov),
7-309 (McCullum, 66.3 ov), 8-369 (Franklin, 77.5 ov),
9-432 (Vettori, 86.4 ov).

Our top order sucks ass.

But back to the ashes...

I just said England, because well, I think England should win everything :D.

I don't really like Cricket, I don't know how to play and I feel that it's boring to watch.

Warne in the first innings?
"I dont care where it pitches, I'm getting down to the pitch regardless and its going out of the ground!"

Unfrotunatley Shane, your not as good as The Lord (The Great Freddie One), and missed. Idiot.
Mind you, Warne is the only player I know to wear flares on a cricket pitch...

Come on you Pomms :)

We need Thorpe to get in and stop the famed Middle Order Collapse syndrome which all England players suffer from. He can chuck a ball too, so yeah, in the team instead of erm...we can just have an extra player right?

I reccomend you all play the úber cool game "Bring it On" on the Channel 4 cricket website, featuring the legend W.G. Grace, playing as the convicts is a rib tickler.

That was an amazing match!! Even my mum who hates cricket was on the edge of her seat.

Its amazing that an LBW that was turned down was out, and the last catch off of the glove was not out but given. What goes around I suppose!!

3-2 to England!!

Bell should be dropped!! btw

I heard at about 1:00 on Day One of the first test he had officially retired from International Cricket after not being selected for the first test. :(

Petersen was great in that test(Except catching)
But the other young guy sucked.
They really should have had him in their.

Lee may be out for the 3rd test. :)

Well, that aint good at all. We need him, even if only as a reserve since the selectors dont seem to think we do. Can anyone tell me what the score was at the close of play today? I saw we got to about 270/2 or something...

Could have been 350+ for 3, if Peitersen had got himself in before pulling Lee.

I think it's going to be 4-1 to England, the Ozzies look seriously shaken up and we will see when they finnaly get on the pitch today if they have recovered. If they havn't, they shouldn't win the series.
