It's simple-- If you haven't noticed, more than half of the posts on NS will always be about a few neverending topics. These are (in no special order):

1. The Gay vs. The Straight
2. Socialism/Communism vs. Libertarianism/Capitalism
3. Liberal vs. Conservative
4. Religion vs. Science
5. Anarchism/Minarchism vs. Social Order/Big Government
6. Republicans vs. Democrats

Get used to it. These arguments aren't going anywhere on a forum primarily devoted to politicical debate.

4. Religion vs. Science

This one is probably better stated as something like secularity vs. religion . As there have been many threads that make comment about religion but do not involve science so much as say atheism is better (the evolutionary threads are science vs. religion). Often times those threads have atheists who claim Christianity is evil and is based on bad ideas while many Christians defend their religion in various ways. Not all religious threads involve science.

And here you have the lesser spotted creationist-Evolution argument.

You see this one lives in the highly volatile "creation science" ecosystem which uses fossil evidence to prove the great flood, as oppposed to the greater spotted argument that says that fossils are God's way of testing us...

oh and now there's a rare sight. I believe we're witnessing the mating of usually opposed Gay and Bible studies arguments in an Islamophobic environment... now that is something

Silly Mesa - this is like the opposite of a back-handed compliment (y'know the one that turns out to be an insult -

e.g. "wow Mary you've lost so much weight I bet most of your clothes don't fit you now..." or
"You are not like the other girls, you don't worry about your looks."
or
"You have great hips, they'll definitely be an asset during child birth"
or
"You should get Nicole to go shopping with you, she always looks great."
or
"At least your hair is starting to look normal again."
or
"It is so refreshing to have a conversation with someone who does not feel that she has to prove she is smart."

this is called the backhanded jibe, cause it's actually supporting you!
think about it - Pauljeekistan isn't ragging on how you're not the unique little flower your mother always thought you were, but rather he's saying that gay people are a mundanity, i.e. they've been around, they are around and they will continue to be around...something a lot of homophobes try to say isn't true (according to them we all formed due to the feminist conspiracy emasculating men.. or some other rubbish)

I for one have a sense of humour and so Thanks Pauljeekistan ;)

It was taken as this: I thought he was referring to gay people.. and suggested they want to be treated special because they think they are unique and the first ones.

Wow Thermidore you win the prize! In my current living situation being hetro is the minority. So I guess I have to take some amusement (bieng a student of history) at homophobes who think that being gay is some outlandish new fad. On the other end I definately have to giggle a bit at homosexuals that find their sexual proclivities to be a defining characteristic. Or to quote Pauljeekistan at a local cafe', "You're gay we know you're gay we know that Rob is gay. There are gay folks all over the place. This does not make you unique or special. Gay is passe. Before you started rambling on about your gayness Rob and I were having a pleasant little conversation about music. If you have something besides being gay to contribute to the conversation please do so. I've spent a lot of time looking for myself. Never once did I look in a clothing store or a bedroom."

Yes you can, but you probably shouldn't. Not as long as, and I quote you on this, you: "seriously [... ]never take anything lightly in this type of thread and humor is not something [you] listen to" after completely having missed a joke so apparent everybody else seems to have gotten it. What do you do in lieu of apologising to the person you immediately swooped in over your mistake and self-proclaimed inadequacy to interpret apparent humour? You have not given an excuse for it - you erroneously assume that proclaiming and taking misdirected pride in your inability to contain yourself and not "take anything lightly" makes your error excused. I am afraid that it doesn't.

No, it isn't, but I am pointing it out to you. You are being needlessly abrasive and if you truly, as you say, lose a vital ability to participate in a forum (the sense of humour) when you join threads like these, you would do best to think about not joining these types of thread, that seem to have such an effect on you. You take things too personally, and you lash out disproportionately.

Everything said in this message is meant as friendly advice and constructive criticism. There is no malice or spite intended. I appreciate your posts, but think you are making an error in joining threads that have this affect on you. I feel the need to point this out, since you have earlier shown to be too quick to take such advice from me as an attack. It isn't meant as one, and I hope you do not take it as one.

First off, when there are christian fundamentalists involved in the thread, IT ake it pretty seriously. I don't make errors in this. And this has nothing to do with a joke thread. I mean is it nice to make jokes of homosexuality? I didn't think so. You need to stop insulting me and move on. Anyways, about gay posts, are you homophobic? Or do you just not like gay people. I'm not one, but every time I see something like this, I get pissed. They should have the same rights as us. Some (most) religions say that being gay is a sin or something. I'm pretty dissapointed with this so called "free country" when rights are being taken away as we speak. I'm specifically talking about the US (obviously), as I'm not sure about other countries laws with this kind of thing.
