Who works late nights/early mornings? How do you cope with it? I get home and can't sleep so I stay up and do nothing because there's zip on TV and even if there was I have to be quiet because I don't live alone. So what do you do if you finish work late at night or early in the morning?

Well, I usually write some content for my website, and watch TV (CNN, Fox News, ESPN 1 & 2, MTV, VH1, the GGW advertisements that run on comedy central late at night, etc).

If I'm not watching TV, I'm listening to music.

I find it best for me to completely wear myself out and then go to sleep then to lie in bed waiting to fall asleep. I feel better when I wake up if I do that...even if I don't wake up until 4 or 5 in the afternoon.

I don't work, but I tend to stay up really late (sometimes to 8 AM). Lately, though, I've been getting to bed at around 2 AM.

How do I cope with late nights? Well, I sleep during the day. That's the way to go, man. When there's nothing to do, just sleep it through.

I sleep.

I usually work until 11pm or midnight three days a week...and I can't sleep afterwards, so I usually stay up really late...like...6 or 7am late.

The problem arises when I have to attend morning classes at university...or when i'm rostered onto a morning shift after working late the previous night...as with tomorrow, where I have to start at 9am, though I only finished at 11pm. In such instances caffeine comes in handy. I can do it for about 2 or 3 weeks before i'll need a day or two off to do nothing but sleep.

But yeah, late night is screwy for entertainment...I usually just play computer games, because waking the neighbours and family with shitty guitar playing probably isn't going to go down well... :p

I should be in bed, seeing as I have to be up in 5 hours, but I can't sleep.

Do it anyway. You may risk a bullet to the ass, but so be it. Anything that annoys people is good late night entertainment.

It would be less of a riot and more of a lynch mob.

Riot, lynch mob... Whatever. Still a lot of fun to be had, that is, until somebody dies.

Then's when you get out your chainsaw.

You could get them to go that retro look, you know, with the pitch forks and torches... At least when the door bell rings you won't have to turn on the front light, they'll have torches.

Or just answer the door wearing naught but that whipped cream you sold your computer and guitar for... "Do you mind? I'm in the middle of something?"

But then, how would I be posting here, and how would I have managed to incite them into rioting, if i don't have my computer and guitar...and where did all this whipped cream come from?!?!?

...Wait...do you feel that?

Go to sleep immediately when you get home, that way your waking hours are a lot more compatible with everyone else's. Ive worked 3rd shift plenty of times. Which means midnight to eight in the morning. If I go to sleep immediately when I get home, that means I will be waking up at around 5, which happens to be about the time that everyone else is getting home from work. So, my schedule is fully compatible with everyone else's. While they are at work, Im sleeping, while they are sleeping, I am at work but our free time coincides perfectly.

His parents would be scared if he asked them to lick it off...

Anyway, you could always start that socialist revolution when the cricket is not on...

Doesn't work for me as neatly. I get home at 11:30pm-2:30am, so am awake while Jason is asleep, asleep while he is at work and at work when he is home. :(

I guess I'd better head off to bed for another night of tossing and turning for 3 hours. :( At least the money is pretty good, almost $900/FTN.

I worked a 4-12:30 shift one summer. It took some getting used to, but what I did was get the other couple of people that worked with me and we all headed out to a pub. We would get lunch and then start drinking. The drinks are cheaper that time of day and by 7 I was thoroughly ready for bed.

Cool, you can send the tape to Australia's funniest home videos, win the prize and buy beer for all! :D

I just realized that this is the opposite of your problem. I was waking up around the time you are getting home.

I've never worked at a bar, but I've known a lot of people who did. Most of them solved this problem by developing drug habits.

So what do you do if you finish work late at night or early in the morning?when I ended work at 7:00 in the morning, I would go home and sleep. waking up somewhere around 4:00 - 5:00 in the afternoon. Fortunatly, my windows could be covered so that no light came in and an air conditioner made all the difference. when I shifted times to come home at 2:00 in the morning, Again I went straight to bed.

the trick is I used sleeping pills (ok, pill... actually half of one) for a couple (2) days just to get my body used to sleeping during the day. then I kept that schedule. even on my days off or on 'vacation' I kept my sleeping hours. that way, you don't throw your body out of wack by constantly changing sleeping times.

If you can't sleep try 3 milligrams of melatonin. It's a hormone that tells your body it's time to sleep. You can use it to reset your body's clock.

If you don't want to sleep, you can always kill time on NS.
