Just a thought, but in 1933 Western Australia seceded from The Commonwealth of Australia. Did they ever get around to you-know, rejoing? O

They tried to, but the Brits didn't want them, so I assume they never actually split off.

Interestingly, in a referendum in April 1933, 68% of voters voted for the state to leave the Commonwealth of Australia with the aim of returning to the British Empire as an autonomous territory. The State Government sent a delegation to Westminster, however the British Government refused to intervene and therefore no action was taken to implement this decision.

But that brings us to an interesting topic:
The States against Howard and the IR Reforms.

I don't know, but if the NT was seceded from Australia so we get control of our Uranium and not get nuke dumps provided to us.

Ah yes. But little NT is not a State. So no rights for you! :P

That's why Howard and Co stomps on little NT.
A nuke dump is what we always wanted, according to them.

It's still utterly ridiculous that Howard would dare do that crap. I live in Brisbane, but I still think he's going way too far with the Uranium.

Honestly though, the more time Howard spends screwing the Northern Territory the less attention he'll pay to the fact that a "Pink Liberal" runs our state.

That's right kiddies! Beatie is a closet Liberal who made a name by protesting against Liberal Party policies way back when?!

Run and hide! Ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun and Hide!

Umm, as far as I know, my state is still a part of the Australian Commonwealth. I wouldn't have a problem supporting a seccession though. There's always been an undercurrent of feeling which is very much us-versus-the-east.

SA was the dump original site, but since the Poms nuked SA in the 50's they didn't want anymore radioactive material dumped on them. Using state laws, SA blocked the Stazi so they went North.

Territories never had any rights over Uranium mines anyway, and neither do States.

Speaking of WA, there's an island used for nuke testing by the Poms in the 1950's. The place is radioactive already, why not there for a dump?

I don't mind Beattie too much. He hasn't done anything that actually pissed me off.
Howard however made my HECS Fees rise, he got us into Iraq etc etc etc

And now I'm looking forward to this whole IR-Thing falling apart.
Who's up for throwing bricks at policemen when it happens? :D

I don't really know much about the laws, and I don't really think it's important whether it's legal or not.
Important is that neither the local population, nor the local leaders think it's a good idea, and that yet again the Liberals pushed through what so many didn't want.

It's because your state is geographically distant... like Tasmania... and we all know what goes on down there!

For the sake of our international readers let's refer to The Australian Liberal Party as Conservatives?
