I do not know about you, but I have been fowllowing the stranded Russian submarine on our news. They have less than 20 hours to save the guys, otherwise air will run out.

They are dead meat. Mark my words. (hope I am wrong)

I hope you are not right. In a short time we will know the truth either way.

Japan, Britain and US offered its help. A U.S. plane carrying rescuers and unmanned underwater apparatuses is set to leave San Diego at 10:30 p.m. Moscow time with unmanned Scorpio underwater apparatuses. The plane is expected to land at Yelizovo airport outside Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. Moscow time Saturday.

Japanese ship would take 5-6 days, and British planes would arrive after the air runs out.

Deputy chief of staff of the Russian Navy Vladimir Pepelyayev said the rescue mission will be starting after midnight Moscow time, which is in 2 hours. Preparatory work for lifting the sub to the surface is underway already.

Just heard (while I was writing this) that the submarine is fitted with a coastal observation aerial, which is being held down to the seafloor by a 60-tonne anchor, and this is impeding the operation to raise the vessel. Apparently the anchor needs to be blown up in order to be able to raise the AS-28 submarine. Race continues.

Japan is closest, I hope they can help them. Poor guys, such a small vessel, so poor on oxygene. Damn those nets, allways the same, how many divers allready are lost due to that problem.(and the ecological damage) We need to find less dangerous methods, for both ecology and people (proven once again).

First they had O2 untill monday, then untill sunday, now it is a question of 12 hours (remember Kursk, Russian admirality first gave high hopes to then). Hope that the near high tech Japan arrives soon, UK, US help is to far away, I am affraid. :(

Come on Japan, give all you have!

Adding to the Ghost Story in the making, the minisub the 7 are trapped in is a rescue vehicle, the same model as the one that tried to save the doomed crew of the Kursk.

I swear if the Red October had been a real Russian sub, it might have not even made it halfway across the Atlantic Ocean.

Huh, you mean it was not Russian? What was it then? A cameleon US boat propaganda stunt? :p LOL

More serious:
If the boat cannot be moved - could it be possible to somehow introduce air into the submersible? Bottled air? Hose pipe?

Anything of that kind?

Might atleast increase window of time untill special equipment can be brought in.

I hope they get out ok.

Exactly two Russian submarines have been in the news. the KURSK from five years ago and this rescue sub. "Yet another" sub has NOT been sunk nor is there a third rescue situation.

As I posted this morning, they're already rescued.

Sorry to spoil the joke but that sub was bought by the Canadians, not the Aussies.

You'd think the russians would have figured out by now that the sun roof might look cool, but it only causes problems.and like you can pick up girls at the bottom of the ocean(well mermaids maybe)

But all joking(well maybe not all) aside the russkies really need to hire a new sub designer.

Fair enough.. horses held and I'll make sure the barn door is closed. Just making sure that you're talking about two russian subs and not three The Russians aren't that bad - not yet. We did have that one American sub which hit an uncharted seamount off Japan , but that only speaks to my criticism of the Russian Navy's incompetence.
At least the Americans don't bombard their own ammunition storage.

Oh setting fire to a sub isn't hard - I live in Ohio and a few decades back the city of Cleveland managed to set a LAKE on fire - we still refer to the city as the "mistake by the lake"

Setting a lake on fire is easy, all you need is gasoline.
