Cantona or Henry?

Premiership/other soccer fans, who was the better striker:

Eric Cantona or Thierry Henry?

For those who don't remember Cantona, he was a huge star with Manchester United in the mid-late 90s when youngsters like Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, the Neville brothers, Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes were starting out with the Red Devils.

Thierry Henry is the top striker in the Premiership these days (though Rooney may soon take that spot).

So please vote and discuss.

Cantona wasn't a stiker. He was an attacking midfield player.

I happen to believe Rooney is over rated, and that Man United are on a downward spiral (and, aside from the odd big game, up until last season when Megson/Robson never played him, Robert Earnshaw had a better scoring record, at club level for Cardiff City, and internationally for Wales, yet no one raved half as much about him). Cantona was good, and i envied United him, but i don't think he was quite as good as was made out at the time, his strength wasn't his ability, but his talismanic quality for the rest of the team.

Henry, on the other hand, is the complete striker, curse him.

The real question, in my eyes, is who will be the Midfield general to inherit the crown lost by the ageing Keane (the reason United have stayed anywhere near the top in the past couple of seasons) and the departed Vieira? Lampard or Gerrard. My heart says Stevie, my brain says Frankie.

Im for Henry! He is and will be the best striker in the FA Premier. I mean when he scores goals they are beautiful every time, though I think that Rooney isn't too far behind. But as for me Im all for Liverpool and Cisse is me favorite striker, and morentais isn't to bad either

Oh, as a Liverpool fan, i like Cissé, but Morientes? I dunno...he hasn't really justified his fee to me yet.

I'm just nostalgic for the days of Fowler, i suppose.

Cantona.

Henry is barely a striker in the traditional sense now anyway, Cantona was never really one in anyone's eyes, more where Paul Scholes plays.

Proper footballers are a dying breed. Defenders like the old (as in, mid-90s) Man U and Arsenal back lines (Steve Bruce & Gary Pallister, Tony Adams & Martin Keown. The brute-force -style defenders) are getting rarer and rarer. The brute-force midfielders like Paul Ince & Roy Keane are dying as well, although not as quickly. But the brute-force strikers will be all gone once Alan Shearer [finally] retires.

I miss the good old days. When football was played by men, not namby-pamby ballet dancers. There's room for flair and finesse, but not in all 11 spaces.

And that's why I watch Kidderminster; we don't have any flair at all (not that it'd be much use in the Conference).

Surely Cantona.... I've never really liked Henry... I think a real striker should be someone like Michael Owen and (as much as I hate him) Ruud Van Nistelrooy

...and what if Michael Owen goes to Manchester United...

Who will be the regular starting strike tandem?

Van Nistelrooy/Rooney
Van Nistelrooy/Owen
Rooney/Owen

Cantona, easily. Henry's cooler, but Cantona's a better player, in my opinion.[/rose-tinted view]

What I love about Cantona is that after he retired he stopped giving a shit about football. He has less national pride during Euro and World competitions than an American-Muslim anarchist.

Although I believe Henry is the better player, I hate him for appearing in those crappy adverts when he hasn't grasped the English language yet. It sounds like he's saying, "blah bleh ble ble ble, ble ble ble ble va va voom. Ahon hon hon!" Fucking move your lips, MUSHMOUTH!
