Meh. Moderately entertaining in the early nineties, but eclipsed by their peers such as Godflesh. If you have never heard their Streetcleaner LP dig out a copy from somewhere and give your ears treat.

I don't understand the question, but if you're into this kind of thing then it would certainly be worth your while having a poke around at some of the samples of the early acts signed to Earache records here:

EDIT: ah, right. I understand now - Streetcleaner is an LP by Godflesh, not Pitchshifter.

ah lol that would make more sense. cheers for the link - i definatley want to explore more of this kinda music :)

edit: hey wow, just realised, Earache... Bolt Thrower and Napalm Death are signed to them. excellent :D

edit2: OMG... looking at some of these early pitchshifter vids, they sound nothing like their more recent stuff after the album www.pitchshifter.com
well "nothing like" is perhaps a bit strong but still

Thatr's funny, after I posted my last one there I was heading off to a gig and on the way down I was thinking about how much Boltthrower rawk. Track down the Peel session for some of their best stuff (shit production aside).

Pitchshifter is a good band, but their early stuff was best. They're, sadly, getting progressively worse as they move away from using guitars (but that's to be expected.

Streetcleaner is a good album, but not Godflesh's best.

If you like slow, drum heavy stuff, you might want to check out Swans, for instance their Cop album.

Personally I prefer the Body To Body Job To Job compilation, anyhow, I guess mention of the Swans brings us on to Neurosis via Jarboe - another band who are sadly well past their prime. I am all for bands developing and changing their sound, but far too often people have a tendency to end up just taking it to banal and pointless places... Neurosis being one such example. I don't think they will ever recapture the flame they had during the Souls At Zero/Enemy Of The Sun period.

Personally I prefer the Body To Body Job To Job compilation, Eh. It's good, too. I actually prefer later Swans stuff, but their later stuff after Jarboe joined isn't slow and drum heavy.

I don't have all of Neurosis's albums, but out of the ones that I have, Souls At Zero is the best. I'll have to check out Enemy of the Sun. But Jarboe still rules. :)
