I just watched the movie Constantine...

...and it kicked massive ass. I personally like it, but how do you guys think about it?

Meh.

Nice effects, but I wasn't too impressed with the, literal, deus ex machina of an ending.

I will be bothered to no end by the "spear of destiny" bit.

It's called the "Lance of Longinus" folks, and Nuremburgers claim to have it! Not some goddamn mexican church/shrine/thing

I gave up on Hollywood ever being accurate a long time ago, thanks to the film "Hackers" (which is a cult favourite because its badness, nowadays, not to mention that the lead character is a sexy, sexy little bitch!)

The film was okay. The only "yay!" bit was when Lucifer did the slow motion walk at the end. Fucking fantastic shit right there. I am partial to the soundtrack though, some very cool and unique sounds.

I felt that the deus ex machina ending was actually very appropriate for the story. I mean really, it's about angels and demons! How could you not use one, with the devil himself no less?

I liked the movie personally, the fact that they got Keanu Reeves playing a blonde Englishman didn’t even bother me. IMO it was pretty kickass for a comic adaptation.

But it was so predictable - I told my date before we went into the cinema that it would end that way, and it did. I was a bit surprised that the Devil was played by a Swedish actor, though.

He wasn't English or blonde in the film. What are you talking about? Or have I forgotten something? It's been a while...

John Constantine is a character from DC comics Hellblazer series. In the comics John is a blonde Englishman.

Oh. I don't do comics, so that went over my head.

The imagery of hell was amazing. (Now I know for sure, if hell were like that, I don't wanna go there ;)) Overall, it was a great movie, in my opinion.

I'd rate it up there with BioDome. No, seriously-- It was slightly entertaining, but too ambitious, and thus the fall was so much worse.

Keanu needs to take on a role where he does not play a savior type, really.

I'd quite like to go there. Then again, I hate the idea of a perfect, everlasting existence. I'd get bored. At least in hell you could have orgies.

Now that you mention it, even in "Bill and Ted" he had to save the world...

The bit where Keanu Reeves does the fingers to the devil is perhaps one of the lamest scenes in cinematic history.

Yes, I also really enjoyed it.

I think most of the people who didn't like it are fans of the comic it's based on - apparently, it's not very faithful to the comic at all...

A bit hoaky in places. The woman who played Gabriel was excellent - but, then, she is an incredible actress anyway.

All in all, a good movie. I've added it to my personal collection.

I believe I puked a little popcorn into my mouth, and had to wash it down with some overpriced Pepsi at that point.

Like in Much Ado About Nothing? Heh. We watch that movie every year. Bad memories..

I liked it, but thought it was complete crap at the same time. It was better than Fantastic Four though, which I also thought was good but crap. In fact, maybe I just put the 'good' in there to prevent my friend from getting all pissy on me, I think it was just crap.

Maybe it's just late, but I found that sentence totally hillarious. :p

Like somebody mentioned before, Hellblazer is based on a comic, and I'd highly recommend it to anybody who likes a great mixture of character/sacrelige/violence/humor/art. The ones written by Garth Ennis are particularly well done. Comics are sadly pricey these days, but a Garth Ennis story is worth the $2.95. Also, check out "Preacher" by the same author.

"Son of God or not, you can't fuck your sister and expect any good to come of it" -Herr Starr, Sacred Executioner of the Grail, "Preacher: One Man's War"

"Hey Sherriff! I fooked yer wife last night!" [gets shot in the head by sheriff, feels brains oozing out] "She...she wasn't worth it." -Cassidy, Irish Vampire, Preacher: Blood and Whiskey

I aim to please :D

Hasn't that ever happened to you? You wait soooo long for a movie to come out, and when it finally does, it's complete and utter crap. You friends seem to like it though, and the more you say bad things about it, the more her eyes begin to squint and she starts snapping at you and her hand starts twitching, so you get really freaked out and end up blurting out a 'it was good though,' and everything turns to normal.

For me the beginning exorcism was what caught my attention. Not the mexican guy digging up Longinus' Spear.

It was not a very faithful adaptation of one of DCs best comics. The character of John Constantine is far more multi-layered and intelligent and subtle in the comics. Some of the imagery from the comics was far far better (for example, the finger scene in the comic was a leering, full face grin with Constantine giving the Devil a full on "f*ck off you wanker" style finger).

All that said, i did enjoy it far more than i thought i would. The casting of some of the other players - Papa Midnite, Gabriel, the Devil - more than made up for dark haired Keananananananenenenoo as JC.

Actually, according to my boyfriend, it's pretty faithful to one of the story-arcs.

The thing with any comic that lasts long enough is that the universe in the comic is changed and restarted, depending on which writer is involved at the time. It could be that it just didn't follow some people's favorite story-arc.

My husband and I watched it the first day it came out on DVD. I really liked it, as did my husband. Certainly not the best movie I've ever seen, but was for sure worth renting. All in all, it was a good movie.
