Your Epitaph.

What would it be? Mines would be a lovely little poem I found on the internet today:

Do not stand at my grave and weep. I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glint on snow.
I am the sun on ripened grain. I am the soothing, gentle rain.
When you awake in morning hush, I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry. I am not there. I did not die.
- Anon.

Beautiful, I feel.

very nice poem. my choices are somewhat more crude...

"wishing you were here"

or, perhaps better

"stand on my grave and i'll rip your fucking dick off!"

If I had the guts and it weren't already taken, I'd go with this one:

"If you can read this, you're standing on me!"

(Yes, that's really on a tombstone in the cemetary at the college I attended. I very much wish I had known the professor who came up with it in life, since he had to be awesome.) :p

Lol.

What's next, "Ding, Dong the Witch is Dead" being sung at the funeral? :D

Then again, I am very depressed. I also belive in thinking ahead, so that you get the sendoff you want. This way I don't get a Christian funeral...

Mine's going to read:

"Martin - did a lot of shit in life that didn't mean a whole lot. Except that cancer cure thing, that was pretty cool"

It'll either confuse the hell out of people or mean I achieved my ultimate goal :p

EDIT: And that's going to be etched along the piece of viking longboat that survives the funeral pyre.

I would probably say something like "Beautiful, just beautiful", but I don't know sweedish.

Swedish is spelled with one "e", and of course the poem loses its intonation and rhyme when translated, so this is just a literal translation of what it basically means:

"Sleep in peace, thou old singers' heart!
Time and its widely sung pain
Shall not pierce through the tranquillity of the grave.
Thou dost not miss the fast moments in life:
Alas, you have such a pleasant time here below,
Undisturbed by a worried time."

Sorry about that. Shows how little Swedish I know really...

And as to the poem, beautiful, just beautiful.

Most likely, it sounds better in it's true form.

Since I'm hoping that they will never find my body, my epitaph should read under those circumstances: "This Space For Rent."

If my corpse is found and I'm buried, I want something simple like:

"No Vacancy."

or maybe...

"Ow."

or...

"I zigged when I should've zagged."

Probably:

Commended into the Love, Mercy, and Power of the Lord.

Here lies a woman who lived life for all that it's worth.

Where can a dead man go?
The question with an answer only dead men know.

All that is gold does not glitter;
Not all those who wander are lost.

Eh...I'm not really sure. More than likely I'll figure out a bible verse I wish to have written on it.

If I know I've got some sort of deadly disease or am just getting really old, I'll want to be burned at the stake. No, seriously, I will. Nothing to me, not even death in and of itself, is so terrifying as the thought of my life meaning absolutely nothing to anyone. The thought that NO ONE will remember I ever existed and I might as well have not lived at all...
So I want to go out with a bang, and people will remember me a little longer than they otherwise would have. As for the pain, well, I'm hoping to asphyxiate on the smoke before the flames actually reach me. Then I'll spend my afterlife haunting theatres. I spend all of my free time there anyway. The people at State College have begun to call me "the Ghost of the Davis Fine Arts Building" and at school I'm "the Phantom of the school auditorium". So I've made my start already.
As for my epitaph, I'll probably say, "To die; to sleep; no more. And by a sleep to say we end the heartache and the thousand natural shocks that flesh is heir to. To die; to sleep. To sleep; perchance to dream." That's Hamlet, for those of you who don't recognize it. About halfway through the famous "To be or not to be" monologue.

I have a few that I feel I would like

Do not stand by my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints upon the snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain and
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush,
I am that swift uplifting rush,
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand by my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die.

I’d like the memory of me
to be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an after glow
of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo
whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times
and bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve,
to dry before the sun
of happy memories
that I leave when life is done.

Here, freed from pain, secure from misery, lies
A child, the darling of his parents' eyes:
A gentler Lamb ne'er sported on the plain,
A fairer flower will never bloom again:
Few were the days allotted to his breath;
Now let him sleep in peace his night of death.

Lord, make me an instrument of Your Peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow Love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may seek not so much to be consoled, as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life. Amen.

Behold, the Tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Those are the 5 that I think are nice.
