Poll for drinkers

New Fubaria

What type of booze do you mainly drink? If it's "all of the above", just list which you drink more of, or what you drank most recently.

Also, as an aside, there's an interetsing quiz here: http://www.okcupid.com/tests/take?testid=16336235046633759176

My top 5 preferred drinks:
1. Bourbon
2. Scotch
3. Ale
4. Vodka
5. Lager

As for the quiz... (I guess I kinda suck.)

Vodka
Congratulations! You're 100 proof, with specific scores in beer (80) , wine (16), and liquor (60).
All right...you're getting into the harder stuff. A good martini, a Mai Tai or straight shots of hard liquor is what you're into.

My test tracked 4 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

You scored higher than 13% on proof

You scored higher than 82% on beer index

You scored higher than 66% on wine index

You scored higher than 74% on liquor index

I tend to average 4-8oz of Vodka/Whiskey/Rum per evening while on NS. Less if I just go to bed, more if I'm arguing with Oye Oye. ;) (though in this case we agree about canoes et.al...)

Otherwise, when it's hot I drink US 5.9 cheap soda-pop "Ice" beer and when I'm out I won't drink it if I can see through it.

Congratulations! You're 146 proof, with specific scores in beer (120) , wine (100), and liquor (139).
All right. No more messing around. Your knowledge of alcohol is so high that you have drinking and getting plastered down to a science. Sure, you could get wasted drinking beer, but who needs all those trips to the bathroom? You head straight for the bar and pick up that which is most efficient.

My test tracked 4 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

You scored higher than 88% on proof

You scored higher than 90% on beer index

You scored higher than 83% on wine index

You scored higher than 98% on liquor index

That sign is from the taproom of the best brewery in North America--Anchor Brewing in San Francisco. And I'll drink anything on that poll that's of good quality, although liqueurs are on the bottom of my list. A good single-malt scotch or Irish is usually at the top of my list, neat, or a solid lager like Anchor Steam beer.

Cahors, Sauternes (hmm Yquem..), Pomerol, Vosne Romanée, Jura wines (savagnin), Grüner Veltliner from Austria, Tokaji Aszu from Hungary aso are my favorites. I hate the Californian over oaky snob wines (fucking expensive FF. Copola and Opus one wine that allways disapoints me) Buy quality at a good price, don't buy Californian.

I've discovered that place is lless important than year. For instance, if you can find anything that's French from 1998, buy it, even if it's just table wine. It'll be terrific. Same for California in 2001--great year for grapes and it's hard to do poorly with a 2001 California. '02 and '03 were a different matter altogether.

No, I've never had it. I only found out recently that it's still being made in some parts of the world; I thought it had been completely banned or something. According to Ernest Heminway it tastes like liquorice.

According to the absinthe buyers guide, the Swiss ban on it was lifted in 2004. Still very much illegal in the US, but apparently it's available in much of the EU.

Okay, I admit that I have no idea how reliable this source is--google ain't perfect after all--but according to these folks (http://www.absinthebuyersguide.com/faq.html#Anchor-3800):Is drinking absinthe containing thujone harmful?

Modern commercially produced absinthe has been shown to contain a safe level of thujone.

In order to comply with European Union (EU) limits, the thujone levels in commercially distilled absinthe must be10mg/l or less. The thujone levels in commercially distilled absinthe in Germany must be 30mg/l or less.

As an example: before you could consume a toxic amount of thujone from drinking commercial absinthe, you would have been suffering from alcohol poisoning.

Modern analysis supports the theory that poor manufacturing processe, and adulterants such as antimony trichloride and cupric acetate, present in cheaper varieties of absinthe produced at the turn of century, of being a higher suspect for acute effects such as restlessness, vomiting, vertigo, muscular disorders, and convulsions.

That makes sense to me, because a lot of food-related illnesses from a hundred years ago were due to anything from unsafe production practices to simple unclean production conditions. Clean up the production and you get a better and safer product.
Delator

The production and sale of Absinthe is illegal in the US, but not consumption.

It is perfectly legal to order some online from Europe and have it shipped right to your front door by Federal Express! :D

Guinness.

Edit: And btw the Absinthe that they are producing today is not the same as the old stuff, it doesn't have anything like the effect that it used to have. It just gives you a really hideous headache and a sort of "I've been poisoned" sort of a drunk.

Now this is one of my favorite subjects. I love to drink. My favorite drink is: Absinthe (I like the green fairy on the outside). My boyfriend and I have 6 bottles of it at home. The stuff is expensive but worth it because it doesn't take much to get drunk off from it. My favorite poet drank it (Edgar Allen Poe). Tastes like black licorice, goes down smooth, and I rarely have a hangover from it no matter how drunk off of it I get. :D

Here is a hilarious site that talks about absinthe: http://www.strindbergandhelium.com/absinthe.html

Don't know what absinthe you've been drinking but I've never had that effect from it. The kind you have had probably had some additive in it. There are a lot of immitations. The real stuff is expensive as hell but well worth it. I am quite familiar with it and my boyfriend is pretty much an expert on it as he has done a lot of research into how to make it from the original recipes. He only buys the kind that is made using the original recipe (which most of the time has stuff settled in the bottom of the bottle--wormwood-- unless they strain it out).

Wow. I'm totally impressed. I've reached an all new high for BSing: I have absolutely zero experience with alcoholic beverages/bartending; besides Passover and an occasional sip of wine, I have no experience with booze.

That said, I'm fascinated by alcohol culture, and want to be a bartender (amidst all of my other various random jobs), or at least learn how to mix drinks.

I know I like wines the best, simply because that’s inherent in my elitist character: Mimosas are my favorite so far.
