The Nostalgia Thread.

I know most people go through occasional fits of notalgia, and I'm no different. The idea for this thread was promted by all the nostalgia themed posts. Rather than just focusing on one particular thing, just share what you've been feeling nostalgic about recently.
It doesn't matter how obscure it is. This Forum is big enough that at least a few people will know what you're talking about.

Last night I downloaded a DJ set of the Two-Step the bastard sub-genre of Jungle/Drum n Bass & House music that flared for a short time 7 or 8 years ago, but faded away. I'd forgotten how much I loved this kind of stuff...I hadn't heard any for last 7 years afterall.

Now I'm listening to it and getting nostalic for the Rave Scene in the early 90's. The thing is, the Rave scene is gone, but people just keep perpetuating the myth that it still exists. It's not a type of event, it was also a time and a place. I'm sure my memories have become sugar coated in regard to those times, because all I can do is shake my head at how carefree I was back then, and how much fun it was. I can remeber walking out of a rave venue and saying "Ah, shit, it's still here!" refferring to the outside world in general. It was like walking out of an entirely differnt paradigm of reallity into one full of bullshit, angst and pointless grief. That scene was definitely a form of escapism for me.

My sister's heading off to college, and I'm leaving for a new country on Saturday. We spent yesterday at the dinner table talking about silly things we did over the years.

Part of the moving process involves my mom throwing out things that have been with us since before I was born. I hate throwingthings out, because you always think 'what if I need this again' or 'I love that thing' or 'I'm so used to sitting in that chair, I'm going to miss it a lot'

I was flipping through a box of old things, and I found some things I made in pre-school. I was a very cute baby. I don't know what happened.

I can relate. I have a very nice leather chair a couple years older than myself (I'm 31) All during my childhood, it was my dad's chair, and I have memories of sitting on the side of the chair and watching TV, or him reading to me, that kind of thing. It recently broke when a weld on the support mechanism snapped and the chair basicly fell out from under me My heart nearly broke when that happened. Fixing it will require several hundred dollars and a difficult search for replacement parts. (its an Eames chair, for those that know what that is). Bummer. Its gotten pretty ratt over the years, but I really miss that chair.

I just watched War of the Worlds on Sunday, and the scene in the basement of the mother's house hit me with nostalgia. That basement (though it is different from it) totally reminded me of my grandparents' basement in Fairmont, WV... I haven't been there in a couple years, mainly because they died recently, but seeing it brought back memories...:)
